Harmony One Submerged

My 3yr old daughter dipped my Harmony One in a glass of water about six hours ago. The bottom half dipped in about 3 inches. I removed the battery and let it dry out hoping that would save it. Not looking good. The touch screen still works but all the other keys seem to be fried. Someone please tell me they have a secret to fix this. I just pulled out my old Harmony xbox360 remote and its way to primitive for my daily channel surfing.

that could take days, even more than a week, to dry out. putting it out in the sun would speed that up a lot. you should not have tried it so soon.

Since it's no longer under warranty, separate the halves of the case, remove the circuit board and make sure it's dry. If it's still wet, which I think it is, it won't turn on. The water behind the rubber mat will cause connections from all buttons to the others and that will keep them from working. It won't dry completely unless you open it and separate all of the large parts.

Put the remote in a sock or nylon and tie it shut. Put the remote with nylon in a plastic ziplock bag or jar. Add uncooked rice and seal. Let it sit for 24 hours. The rice will extract the water from inside the remote. Its work well for me in the past with blackberries. Once in the dog water dish and another time in the toilet!

I've heard this is the trick but luckily, have never had to do it (yet). I have 3 kids that are 3 and under.

Thanks for the advice. Remote is currently sitting in a sock. Hopefully that works.

I got my fingers crossed for you... Put as much rice as you can fit in the jar or bag, the more the better. Depending on how long the remote was submerged it may take 2 nights in the sock, no harm in checking after 24 hours. Go rice go!

I'd put a bag or two of desiccant in there. Basically make a poor man's Dry-All cell phone kit for about 10% of the price. You probably have some desiccant bags laying around even if they have to be recharged.

a friend of mine had his harmony one drenched in beer once, he took it apart, cleaned it, and let it dry... once put back together it worked fine, but the buttons were a tad bit sticky.

another fix they use with fine manuscripts is to take apart to point where you think you can reassmble.....then put in freezer and and shake vigorously to remove the ice crystals.....of course that assumed you caught it early enough before damage done to fine printed circuits...

Follow Up; Thanks for all the advice. Just took my remote out of "the rice sock" and the remote almost worked perfect. The only thing that isn't working is the #9 key. So i'll give it another couple days before i take it apart.
