Does anyone know: is there a new version of Pioneer VSX-9040TXH w/HDMI 1.4 coming?

I've nearly settled on the Pioneer VSX-9040TXH except for one thing - I'd like the future proof part of HDMI 1.4, 3D support (though I'm not all that clear the difference of '3D' and the '3D' that 5.1/7.1 has), and while I'm at it why not the ethernet support, but mainly 3D.

The 9040 seems in short supply (no replies to my thread on that), but the local Magnolia (Best Buy) says they'll take over 20% off list and can get it.

The only thing in the way is preferring to get a new version that might come out with HDMI 1.4, so I held off for now.

Does anyone have any info? If it's not coming, I might just get it now with 1.3.

I think the closest match to last year's 9040 is Pioneer's VSX-1020-K, but you might want to wait for the VSX-1120-K, which is due mid June.

Here's a comparison chart I made of the new 2010 Pioneer ARV models.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply. Does it mean with the list of 2010 receivers, that there is no direct new model for the 9040 planned this year?

The 9040 just had such remarkable buyer praise, it was factor in the choice, and I'd be sort of starting over the pick to look at the other models.

I don't know if there is an answer to, what would any downside be to the new 1120 in June instead of the 9040?

Craig, Actually their are many very cool advantages on the VSX1020-K and VSX-1120-K and the amplifiers and overall build quality are the same as the 9040 so you benefit by getting a new generation receiver.

Here's some of the new features built into the 1020 and 1120:

1. The VSX-1020-K and VSX-1120-K are compatible with Pioneer’s new app for its home theater products available for free download from the App Store. The app turns iPhone and iPod touch into a fully functioning remote control for the receiver.

2. Bluetooth Audio Streaming – The full line of new models features wireless Bluetooth audio streaming from any Bluetooth enabled iPhone, iPod touch, Android platform, other smart phones or personal computer with an optional Bluetooth adapter. Pioneer's AS-BT100 Bluetooth adapter permits you to stream music from all portable devices and bring them into any 2010 Pioneer receiver. In addition the two high-end receivers, VSX1020-K and VSX1120-K have Pioneer's exclusive "Sound Retriever AIR, which restores much of the original audio data that is removed from compressed audio formats, especially when transferred via Bluetooth.

3. 3D-Ready as all 2010 Pioneer receivers are HDMI 1.4

4. All 2010 Pioneer receivers have Dolby Pro-Logic IIz built-in. Dolby Pro-Logic IIz adds a front height channel to create the depth and dimension.

5. The VSX-1120-K and VSX-1020-K, now have Internet Radio built-in. Of course the receiver would need a wireless, powerling or CAT5 connection to your home network. This is a great new feature that brings thousands of radio stations to your home theater system. Once you experience Internet radio you will not want to use your iTunes or iPOD music when at home.

6. Excellent video processing from Anchor Bay on the 1020 and Marvell on the 1120.

You will enjoy everything the 9040 delivers and much more. These new receivers are deliver excellent clean full range audio and very powerful new features.

Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but it is just a list of the actual facts. For receivers we are Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer and Pioneer Elite receiver dealers and for the past two years Pioneer has come up with some of the very best low and mid priced AVRs.

Enjoy!

Lets just stick to "one of best feature sets in industry" and I won't call you a liar :D
Pioneer (none-Elite) series have seriously power output overrated specs which makes be think if i'd consider them "the very best"

Just my 2c :p

No problem, I have read this and understand that last year the power supplies did draw less watts than the Elite receivers. I have two comments:

First, I have the latest entry level VSX520-K connected to Definitive Technologies flagship and most demanding tower speakers the Mythos STs and you can very easily turn the volume to reference level and drive those speakers very very well. The sound is very clean and deliver a full dynamic tonal range. Very impressive receiver for under $200.

Second, I'll ask Pioneer's corporate product manager to comment on this issue as it just makes no sense to me that these receivers deliver great power and have lower rated (in reference to watts) power supplies.

So for now I'll agree to your quote "one of best feature sets in industry" with the addition that these receivers can easily power high-end speakers with very low s/n ratio at reference level volume.

Hardly most "demanding tower speakers", the opposite in fact is truth.
Try to drive these http://www.salksound.com/speakers_veracity_ht2-tl.shtml and see if you get "very clean and deliver a full dynamic tonal range" at reference levels :D
(btw: These speakers priced same as Mythos STs )

Thanks for doing the research ^^. I don't mind being corrected. But you do need a good receiver to drive Mythos ST towers at reference levels and deliver a very low s/n ratio and full dynamic range.

Of course if you own a pair of Salk Veracity HT2-TL you would likely not have a $200 receiver driving it.

I understand and appreciate your posts.

Thanks for the replies.

If I'm understanding correctly -

The 9040 is the last of its series as far as we know.

Whatever qualities led it to have reviews like no other receiver I've seen (44/45 5 star, one 4 star, except for one bad unit on Amazon), the new 2010 models should have the same things and better, there's nothing worse about the 1020/1120, even though the reviews of the 1020 are much more mixed. They are the only units to replace it and offer HDMI 1.4.

I remember the 9040 was called the same as an Elite model - is there a newer version of that Elite model with HDMI 1.4, how does it compare to the rest?

I was excited to get a processor with such great buyer reviews, but wanted the future proof HDMI 1.4 - it sounds like the 1020/1120 'should' do that...

I haven't seen any responses say anything about the 9040 is better, nor that HDMI 1.4 isn't worth getting for surround sound at least, maybe for Ethernet.

Yes the 9040 is a 2009 Pioneer model and Pioneer and the distributors are sold out. The good news is that the 2010 line should be very highly rated again this year. Other than the flagship model VSX1120-K Pioneer 2010 models have the same amplifiers as the 9040.

Also, in addition to being HDMI 1.4 their are many new features built-into Pioneer's 2010 models.

At this time, I would recommend going for one of the 2010 models.

Thanks. You have helped show the new features the 2010 models have.

On another forum, someone posted that the 9040 has better quality materials than the 2010 models.

I have no practical way to confirm such info.

I'm not sure how important the 1.4 is. It's nice to have the 3D sound supported I guess even if I don't know how much better it is than 7.1.
