Hello,

Need some help with multi zone audio set-up.

Here's what I have
Yamaha RX-V665
Yamaha RX-V367
Older Pioneer 3.1 receiver

Zone 1 - Bose Acoustimas 10
Zone 2 - Loft speakers - pair
Zone 3 - Outside speakers 2-pair
Zone 4 -Basement speakers - pair

There will be no video set-up on this system

I want to be able to control volumes in each zone and run a CD player, xm radio, built-in radio tuner and IPOD connected to the AV jacks on the front panel of the RX-V665.

Any help is appreciated.

Will you be doing all of the source switching with the 665 and using only the amplifier in each of the other receivers? If that's the case, I would use muting volume controls in each zone and a universal remote that uses RF. If you want to be able to play different music in two or more zones simultaneously, you'll need a multi-zone receiver, like a Niles, Sonance or whatever. Then, you would probably want keypads for each zone.

The simple way, I believe would be to use a speaker selector box connected to the 665 zone 2 speaker terminals with volume controls, however I am concerned about impedence drop/

If you want anything approaching high volume, I don't know if that will be enough power. If you're not trying to play it that loud (and you won't be setting the volume control above about 12:00), a Niles speaker switch/volume control or a Jamo JSS-VC6, both with auto-former will maintain the impedance wanted by the amp. Both companies sell volume controls that work the same way and if you're able to locate one in each area covered by a pair of speakers, it's pretty convenient.
