You know, we have something called "the law" and the "judicial system". In this civilized society, Canada that is, we do not approve of summary judgement resulting in arbitrary bodily punishment. But maybe not how you guys roll in good'ol USA... Need to smack some sens in the fu**** now aintcha?
Quoting the UN I figured you were outside the U.S. He was trespassing, that is breaking the law here. He was never judged, only subdued and arrested. As violent as you and the press make the taser out to be, it is a very effective tool that is very safe.

A study out of Wake Forest University School of Medicine finds that Tasers are relatively safe. Tactical physicians (doctors who work with SWAT teams) looked at 1,000 cases of law enforcement use of Tasers in six locations around the country. They found that 99.7 percent of the cases had mild injuries, such as scrapes or bruises, or no injuries at all. In the study, only three people suffered severe enough injuries to be sent to the hospital. Of those, two had injuries from falling immediately after being Tasered. The third person was admitted to the hospital two days after being Tasered, but researchers says it is unclear whether the hospitalization had anything to do with being Tasered.

Amnesty International points out more than 245 people in the United States have died, many from cardiac arrest after being shocked with Tasers. Amnesty and other groups call for more investigation into how dangerous these devices may be. The Wake Forest researchers acknowledge that there have been roughly 270 people who have died in police custody after being Tasered, but they say that there is no clear evidence that the deaths can be attributed to Tasering or other causes.
So maybe the fact that some of those 270 were tweaking out of their head on meth (or other drug of choice) might have contribute to there death and not so much the taser?

..and yes I've been on the receiving end of a taser. I'll take it over getting pepper sprayed any day of the week.;)

I'm not sure he was trespassing, as defined by PA law...

as far as swat medics doing the evaluation...sort of like the fox counting the chickens...lol

radiation was considered safe, we marched GI's thru the fallout...
so was smoking
asbestos
coal dust

everything dangerous is 'safe' until proven otherwise...

a taser has a place in the spectrum of escalating use of force...
but in this case, it was just the easiest, bunch of fat guys chasing a fast skinny kid...maybe they should lay off the donuts and hit the gym

I think that everyone is missing one important fact, the first butthead was not tazed for trespassing and or interrupting the play of the game as those would not be a legal reason to use such force. The reason for said force and the only "legal justification" was because he failed to respond to the police officer when ordered to do so , hence the use of force was put into action, right or wrong , it was done.
The Phillies organization has changed the policy to use private security to clear the field of any trespassers without the use tazers, lol.

Did you see him hit the ground like a sack of sh!t?
I did see that and enjoyed it very much. Can we do this every game? Like even if nobody wants to be tased, we just take some random fan and toss his @ss out on the field so we can watch him get chased and beaten. :D

... bunch of fat guys chasing a fast skinny kid...maybe they should lay off the donuts and hit the gym
So now being fat is the real crime? I was gonna buy some donuts on the way home but I'm glad I didn't seeing as how you are ridiculing fat people tonight ... you meanie.

Seriously, I have no life.
the father told him it was not a good idea
he never mentioned lawsuits, this is in fact what the family said...

"Steve and his family wish to apologize to all Philadelphia Phillies fans, the entire Philadelphia Phillies organization, players, staff and security, as well as the Philadelphia Police Department for what occurred that evening," attorney Steven F. O'Meara said in a statement.

"His family hopes and prays that people will understand that teenagers do impulsive things," O'Meara said. "This young man has never been in trouble before and has learned a valuable lesson."

doesn't sound like a primer for a lawsuit...

the 'lawsuit' tripe sounds like a bunch of yentas squawking
If it doesn't sound like a primer for a lawsuit, why did they issue the statement through an attorney?

Unless death results and then it's not that temporary.

Oh boohoo. The game stops for 30 seconds every 10 seconds for sack scratches, spitting, chewing gum and other baseball inanities. It also stops every couple of minutes for commercials. So they had to stop the game for a couple minutes because some kid ran on the field, big deal. It then started all over like nothing happened. It's not like it ruined the game in any way.

Fer christ sakes... And why would even tacking be a solution? Let the kid run around for five minutes, who the hell cares. When some idiot trainer gets in the face of the ref or throws balls on the fields, nobody ****ing runs and tackle him, or tases him for disrupting the game... The game itself is a tedious experiment in monotony. For every 2s of 'action', there's 30s of absolute boredom. If baseball fans despised waiting so much, there would be no baseball fans as this constitutes 99% of a baseball game.

And besides, every job has it's own set of risks. If you're a security guard working at an arena or whatnot, be aware that there might be situations requiring a little bit of physical contact. If you're not fit for the job, or are unwilling to assume the risks involved, then you shouldn't be doing the job. They were SIX, fully grown, trained man, to handle the kid, don't give me some crap about having to tase him because the kid jogging around waving towel with a huge smile on his face was too dangerous to handle... Do you people not realize how ridiculous the situation was?

Please...

A taser is not a harmless toy. the UN Committee Against Torture released a statement saying "use of Taser X26 weapons, provoking extreme pain, constituted a form of torture, and… in certain cases, it could also cause death." It should only be used when situations requires it to be used... It's not a toy for officers to play with.
You don't like baseball. We get that. If you prefer soccer, cricket, rugby or some other on-field team sport, what would happen in that case? If it happens on a rugby field (or Australian rules football), I suspect he may have been ground into a fine paste just because the players would find it hilarious. He'd have no chance of outrunning soccer players and cricket players would just be disgusted by his behaviour but it couldn't possibly make a difference because those matches can take 9 hours.

Bottom line- EVERYONE knows people are required to stay off of the field. It's posted all over the stadium. WE have all seen what happens when people run out there and he was advised to stay off of the field. What the hell does it take for people to not do something stupid? If he needs so much attention, he should go on Maury Povich or some other piss-ant show like that.

BTW- unless someone has a heart condition, TASERS are very safe. It's when the cop pulls the trigger too many times, for too long, that people die.

Here, we call donuts 'Police Food'.

If you watched 'Twin Peaks', back in the '80s, you may have noticed that anytime a group of cops was in a room, a big plate of donuts was somewhere in the background.

You clearly did not read all the statements of the family. I know and understand your thoughts on things. All he did was run on to the field.. .big deal... So they sprayed some paint on a bridge so what they're just expressing themselves. Whatever.

In my world, I want people to live and behave within acceptable boundaries of behavior. If I hear one more person, especially one who doesn't live here, tell me about the "problem with the US" vs some European country, I might lose it. The only problem with this country is others trying to convert into something like Europe.

on one hand we want freedom, no government intervention, no taxes, less laws and rules...on the other hand when we have the opportunity to 'let freedom ring', with some silly antics, we want the guy tased, corraled and 'taught a lesson'...conform or suffer!!! 'we have rules here!!!"...can't have it both ways...
...
I don't know what you're talking about. Most Americans don't mind paying taxes, don't mind have government, laws, or rules. It's exactly those things Arthur that guarantee our freedom and the way of life in this country. What people object to is when those things are used purely as tools of an agenda for anything but securing and ensuring our freedom.

I was just lamenting tax season with my neighbor across the street. Between the two of our families, we paid close to $200K in taxes. When I sit back and think that just over 50% of the people in this country pay nothing... ya know... it aggrivates me a bit.

I don't want a stoic society of robots afraid to raise their head. At the same time, however, "silly antics" like that are just unacceptable to me. You have a stadium of people who paid a lot of money to see a game... yes it's a game, but probably something most them really look forward to and use as a way to chill out or spend time with their family. Then you have this clown, who thinks he's more important than all those people and wants his little piece of noteriety at the expense of others. Yeah, I'm glad he got tased.

it impacts the health costs of all others, just like smoking, which is illegal in almost every public area now...they want to label/regulate 'junk food', so perhaps being overweight will be a crime in the not to near future...
that's what a fanatically obsessed, zero tolerance society will get you...

a 10 year old kid gets expelled for going 'bang' with his fingers pointed, yet all he sees is recruitment commercials that glorify combat and weapons...

a 12 year old girl gets expelled for taking a tylanol from a friend...
and yet every other tv commercial begs you to self medicate
add, ask your doctor
can't get 'horny', ask you doctor

no wonder kids are so confused
