Pioneer Component Video Problem

I just picked up the new VSX 1020 and set it up. The problem I'm having is that my Sony 60" rear projection only has component video in. I hooked up my Motorola set top box to the Pioneer via component video and then ran monitor out component to the TV.
I get the on-screen GUI from the Pioneer, but no picture from the set top box. At one point I seemed to be getting the picture from non-hd channels, but not the HD channels. Now, however I'm not getting any picture from the set top box.
The Sony can accept 1080 resolution, but only displays at 763. I turned off auto upscale on the Pioneer, but nothing seems to be working. I checked the input setup and it looks like it should - video via component 1 and audio via the coax connecter.
Anybody have any other suggestions before I go out and invest in a new HDMI TV?

Since you're getting the GUI from the pioneer I would wager that a setting is wrong on your cable box.

What is the box set to output through? Does the box have a resolution output option?

first, isolate the problem.

Do you get a picture from the STB if you run it directly to the projector?

If yes, it's something in the receiver. If not, look at the STB.

Motorola boxes need to have the HD output enabled. The default format is only standard-def signals being sent out of the box. You don't need it plugged into the TV to do this. I had to do this on my parent's Motorola box.

Thanks to all for your thoughts. I did reroute my component out of my STB to my TV and it worked fine for both regular and HD resolutions. So I'm convinced it has something to do with the setup in the Pioneer. But I also had a shopping accident and picked up a new Sony 60NX801 TV at Costco. It obviously uses HDMI, to the STB has resolved itself.
But I still have a component DVD player that I want to use through the Pioneer. I havent' had a chance to try that, yet. But will let you all know what the results of that are.

Again, thanks to all for your quick responses.
