Best Receiver for Optoma HD20, PS3, and Mac Combo

Can anyone plz help?

Just bought an Optoma HD20 Projector that beams an awesome 100"+ image onto my wall.

I'm looking to get a receiver so I can hook up my PS3 and Mac to it and have audio since the Optoma does not have any audio whatsoever.

Would like to keep it around or under $300... 7.1 is cool but I am definitely ok with 5.1.

What is a good receiver for my studio apartment? I want clean sound and crisp, deep bass. I want everything to be 1080P or upconverted to 1080P since my projector is 1080P. Having my receiver play audio at extreme volumes is not that important to me as I live in NY and in a studio apartment.

I've looked at the following two receivers so far:

Yamaha RX-V465

Onkyo TX-SR308

(Sorry I tried to include links but they said my post count was too low)

Do you think either of these would be good for my apartment and/or what would be a better option?

Also, if you have a recommendation for speakers to pair with the receiver it would be greatly appreciated!

From what I heard from one of my friends, Denon makes excellent home theater receivers.

For someone looking for clean, crisp sound. I believe you might have to sacrifice some of that if you want to be watching movies or playing games. When you think of audiophile, you don't really think 5.1 or 7.1, but thats just IMO.

Thanks Trambach. I've come across the Denon's a few times during my internet search and will definitely look into them.

I agree, I am sacrificing a lot at this point but with rent the way it is in Manhattan, I have to make do.

I love music and good sound though. Nothing sounds sweeter than... well, great music. =) When I make my first million you'll know where my money's going.........

You'll need to provide more info, if you want sensible recommendations.

What's the total volume (l x w x h) of the room that the system will be set up in? Include any adjoining open spaces, i.e. a hallway or dining room that is open to the listening room.

You mentioned $300 for a receiver, but what's your speaker budget? By the way, the receiver isn't the part of the system that delivers " clean sound and crisp, deep bass". That is the speakers' resonsibility. If the receiver is from a reputable company (Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Marantz, etc.) they will all "sound" the same, if used within their power limits.

If you want deep bass, you will need a very good subwoofer. If you expect deep bass from your main speakers, expect to pay a lot for those speakers as well as the amplifier to drive them. A good subwoofer would be far more cost-effective.
