Help with PSB Sub 6i

Can some of you 6i owners chime in and tell me where your front panel volume control is set to where it gives your room satisfying amounts of low base. My 6i used to never need to go beyond the 3rd mark (about 10 o'clock) and I had all the base the room needed. Now, it has to be set at the 5th or 6th mark (around 2 o'clock). I was sure it was the volume control itself so I ordered a new front sound board from PSB and replaced it. Nope same results. Now I'm kinda worried cause if you have to start replacing the amplifier assembly, you might as well buy a new sub from what I understand.

So I hoped to tally a little feedback from you guys to see if my settings seam definately off. Thanks.

Did any of your receiver's settings change? Have you checked that out? I knwo when I engage the Dynamic Volume Control on my Yamaha, it does make a substantial impact to the level of bass played.

Nope, nothing changed in settings. Funny thing is, when I first noticed the drop off I went to sub and gently put a little wiggle on the volume knob (while music was playing) and viola, level popped back up. So... simple .... has to be a contact problem in the pot. No problem, I simply ordered the new sound board that contains both controls (only way it comes) and problem should be solved right? Wrong! Much to my dissapointment, same characteristics. So, I guess I'm kinda trying to double check as to where other folks find the average setting kicks out plenty of realistic low end balance (whithout going over the top cause I realize some listeners can't get enough base, especially with movie playback:D). If several owners concur that they too set the volume between 12 - 2 o'clock, then perhaps this is normal and my old soundboard had a problem in the opposite direction.
Still a little suspicious though, the base just doesn't seem to 'ramp' up as smoothly as before. Nothing up to around 10 o'clock..... then fairly steady up to 3 o'clock ..... then bang! way to much all at once. Geezzz, this sounds like it has to be in the volume control, but I can't imagine the odds of two units doing the same thing. Confusing .......

The fact that you wiggled it and the level returned back to normal indicates a solder joint gone bad since the replaced pot didn't fix the problem. How much would it cost to have a qualified dealer repair the sub?

Well a couple things .... (1) the only way to replace the vol pot is to replace what they call the front sound board which contains both the vol & crossover pots that are both integrated onto this board. It's all soldered together as one unit (albeit the whole 'soundboard' itself is only a couple inches long:D). Anyhow, one replaces the whole board and the only other thing up front is the cable coming from the rear panel of the sub. So there are no solder joints or anything else for that matter, other than the sound board..... to which I replaced.

(2) The only reason I haven't approached our local PSB dealer is that they have never worked on ANY PSB speaker before  So as of right now, it seams as though I have more experience than they do... as sad as that seems:D:D
