Mirage/Jamo 250, Polk RM 705 or something else for my RX V765

Hi - was looking all over the internet for help. Can some of the learned audiophiles give me some feedback on the following. I am looking at the a mirage 5.0 nanosats I can get it with Jamo 250. Is this a good set up? I am looking for a room that is 20' by 20. Is this better than getting the nano 5.1 system? My other option is the Polk Audio RM 705 5.1. I like deep bass for music but like the crisp sound of a concert too. I have purchased a Yamaha RX-V765. For the speakers I cannot go above $525.00. Can someone suggest something else if the above speakers are weak? Thanks in advance. Please go easy on slamming me in case i have posted this request on the wrong thread.... THANKS.

My advice is to start with a good strong 2.1 system then add a center, surrounds, and a second sub as money allows.

Option 1
One pair of Behringer B2030P bookshelf studio monitors ($131/pr shipped from B&H Photo) and a Hsu Research STF-2 for $390 shipped. Later when you have more money you can add more pairs of Behringers and use them for a center and surrounds. That room is a bit big for an STF-2 but you can always add a second down the road, however I don't recommend these down firing subs if you have a neighbor below you. If that's the case I'd then look for a front firing sub - maybe a pair of the $155 Daytons.

Option 2
One pair of Infinity Primus P362 towers ($300-400/pr depending on sales) and a $155 Dayton sub from Parts Express. Later you can add the matching PC350 center, P162 satellites as surrounds and a second sub as money allows.

Option 1

Thanks for the recommendation! I like option 1. The HT unit will be in the basement. So the HSU will be OK. I was also looking at the HSU system with their Ventriloquist speaker system. What do you think of this set up? I am yet to hear a HSU model play. I must find a high end audio store and listen to these....Please understand I am a neophyte with regard to Audio. I was totally blown away when I heard the Mirage. It was awesome, sound coming from all over. Only issue were the sub woofer. Why do you not care much for the Mirage nanos? Are they too weak for the size of the room I am looking at? Thanks again...

While I own and like my Jamo subwoofer, I would pass on one that has an 8" driver, like the 250. For a smaller room, it would be fine but for yours, it will be a bit light.

I have never had a chance hear either Hsu or SVSounds speakers only their subs. Both make great subs. Both companies are internet direct so you're unlikely to find them in any stores.

It's been a long time since I last heard Nanosats and I really wasn't paying close attention so I can't comment on their sound. But my thoughts on any micro speaker is that most (but not all) struggle in large rooms and most need to crossover too high for my taste. I like to use speakers that will comfortably play below 80hz. That's the point at which your mind ceases the sonic equivalent of watching a ping pong game as the sound moves back and forth between the speakers and the sub.

As far as the Behringers go I have my modified B2030Ps in a small home office but I'm sure somebody here can give you feedback on how they do in large rooms. Also if you get to feeling adventurous then you'll probably find that WmAx's mods are simple and cheap and really do improve performance. He's also posted suggested mods for the Infinities.

Mirage

Have you heard Mirage? I use the Mirage v2 sats for my front 3 speakers with a DIY sub. I really like the mirage sound but I know it is not everybodies cup of tea.

Yes, my original post stated about a Mirage system, mirage nanosat 5.0 with a Jamo sub or 5.1 system with the mirage sub...I was looking at the Nanosat 5.0 and hook up a Subwoofer to it.... how do you rate your Mirage. How big is your room? Thx...

B&H Photo has the 2030Ps for $131 shipped.

Here are the mod links for the Behringers. If you meant the Infinity mods you'll have to do a search.

This seems to be the approved stuffing, or at least it's what I used. Don't forget to leave a bit of room for the ports to breath.

Behringer and Dayron

Sholling - I decided on 4 behringers and to do the mod WmAx mentioned. I am going to add a Dayton 12" sub. Actually, my previous measuremnt for the room was totally wacked! My overall room is 17 ft (length) 10 ft (width) 7 ft (height) ~ 1190 ft^3. What do you think of this set up? I will purchase another dayton sub as time permits or when my wife goes shoe shopping...tee...hee.. As I mentioned earlier, my main goal is to have a decent HT system that will let me listen to some good music (acoustic, sax, classical, rock ballads), some action movies, a few games (call of duty perhaps), just basic stuff.. nothing fancy. Thanks again for your help! The small amount of knowledge I have got from this forum and site has been wonderful. BTW, do you recommend the same Behringer for a center channel? Best!

The way you use four 2030Ps is as your left, center, and right speakers and save the forth for another project or as a spare. Three pair and a sub makes for a 5.1 system and a spare 2030P. That spare and another pair then become the start of your bedroom theater. ;)

You should have all the bass you need with one sub unless too much is just right. If you want balanced sound, two subs will be too much. I have a 10" and the level control is nowhere near wide open. Any higher than about 10:00 on the control and it's far too much. It's not that large of a room that you should need more.
