Tax Refund for a sub...ideas?

With Uncle Sam returning a bit of my hard earned cash, I'm thinking of upgrading my HT sub. I currently have a Klipsch RW-12D and it is definately the weak link in the chain (All Paradigm Studio v.4s for all speakers). Room size is approximately 17' x 13' with an 8' ceiling. The limiting factor is that I want a relatively small footprint for the sub. Width (up to 24") and height are not really a problem, but I'd like to keep the depth around 20". If I had the proper tools I would consider DIY, but since I don't I'm looking for a commercial sub unless there is anybody in near me who is knowledgeable and would be willing to build an enclosure for a reasonable price. Of course that would open a whole other can of worms. Right now I'm considering a new SVS PC-13 Ultra or a used JL Fathom 112. I guess I'm leaning towards the JL since I already own one for my music rig and know what I'm getting. Either of the two subs mentioned are probably overkill for my room, but this hobby really isn't about need is it?

Basically I'm looking for any smaller footprint subs I may have overlooked that would compete with the SVS or JL. Other ideas would be appreciated as well.

That's only about 1800cuft and even a Hsu STF-2 should be able to handle it. Are you sure that's the entire space? Anyway the sub that I've been considering for a just slightly larger room is an eD A5s-300. I'm space (especially depth) constrained and a compact sealed design seems like the solution to my situation.

Model : A5s-300 Subwoofer $550
Subwoofer Driver Size : 12" x 1
Power : 500W
Dimensions : W - 15.5", H - 15.5", D - 17.25"
Weight : 69lbs

However if you have the money an A7s-650 should do the trick nicely. :D

A7s - 650 Subwoofer $1950
Subwoofer Driver Size : 13" x 2
Power : 1300 Watts RMS
Dimensions : W - 16", H - 38", D - 16"
Frequency Response : 16-100Hz
Weight : 215 Lbs

Or you can try Emotiva's brand new Ultra Sub 12 - its has tiny footprint - 14.5” wide x 14.5” high x 15.25” deep and I pretty sure it fill your root without any problems
Speaking of tax refund - I should be getting a nice one this year

Yes, that is the total area. One wall is mostly open to the kitchen/dining room which are about the same volume as the living room. I will look into the HSU and the eD A5. The A7 is more than I really want to spend unless I can find one used.

I'm waiting for some solid reviews on that Sub 12 to see how it compares to some of the more established sub brands. It definately would fit well. I'd probably go with two of them. I guess I'm looking to go a little over the top rather than just fairly good. Thanks for the input though.

Love the quote in your sig. by the way. Classic!

I would look over at AVS as there is a large thread with lots of user impressions on both the Sub12 & 15 -- which from what has been said seem to be very competent subs. But since you already know the joy of JL there are some amazing prices to be had on the Fathoms as well...
