Picked up a Boston VR910 Center on craigslist yesterday. Seems the coil is screwed or (active driver is frozen up)
Pulled it apart to make sure, takes effort to move the cone.
The old fella who sold it probably had no idea, and seems trustworthy enough.

Anyways. I bought it for $100 to tide me over til I can actually find a VR920, and these are hard enough to get ahold of....BA is closed today, so can't check the cost of a replacement driver...

Question is.....anyone have a rough idea what this will cost to fix? The guy is fine with just giving me my money back, but I would honestly prefer to fix and just get some of it back from him, if possible.

You might want to wait until Monday and try to contact the manufacturer for the price of a replacement driver or the repair of the existing one. It's highly unusual for someone to know the exact price of an exact speaker.

That sounds like a really burnt voice coil. If it that solid I would have to be suspicious an amp failed with huge huge DC off set.

This crossover will need checking before installing a new or reconed driver.

Since you don't know the circumstances of failure, you need to be very careful.

I would highly doubt the seller did not know about this, as I bet it was pretty dramatic incident.

craigslist is notorious for broken stuff. my craigslist rule is no listen/no buy.
