It always irritated me that this seemed to get somewhat brushed under the carpet when Wyatt Earp with Kevin Costner came out a few months later. I think Tombstone is a much better movie.

No way.

I thought everyone talked about "Tombstone" and said that "Wyatt Earp" was pure crap?

They are not even in the same ballpark.

No, they are not even in the same universe.

I'd have to agree with that. When I saw that they actually moved the release date UP, I was happy. I think that is what that news artical was referring to, as this title was previously announced. *Note too that it is up for preorder as well.

I agree fully, Tombstone is fantastic, Wyatt Earp blew. IIRC, Wyatt Earp was somehow nominated for an Oscar and a few other awards and the studio promoted the crap out of it, which was the overshadowing I refered to. Back then the general public somehow seemed to think that Kevin Costner was a phenominal actor and not wooden.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but ...

1). Tombstone is one of my all time favorite movies - regardless of genre.

2). Val Kilmer is off the charts as Doc. Without Val Kilmer, Tombstone would be just another movie. What a great character, and some of the best movie lines ever.

3). Wyatt Earp doesn't even make a pimple on Tombstone's derrière.

Yeah, pretty jazzed too. I just watched 3:10 to Yuma and I have to say it's a great western too.

3:10 was pretty good, but not in the same league. I can't say that I've seen a western that I enjoyed as much as Tombstone since it came out.

I would agree.....and pretty much the same would go for any movie with that guy in it. :)

I saw him in JFK and thought he was okay. But that's about the only one I recall him being pretty good in, in the rest thought he was pretty wooden.

I liked Dances With Wolves, but I don't think he is a good actor.

Can't wait to see this on BRD. Even Tombstone they seem use the movie as a hospitality tool.

Tombstone and Unforgiven are the two best modern westerns period. With Unforgiven being the best of the two. However, Open Range is pretty darn good and there is no denying that Dances With Wolves is one of the most beautiful and moving westerns ever made. I also really like Quigley Down Under but it is a much more lighthearted film. Silverado has it's moments, but it really needs a directors cut with Jeff Goldblums part cut completely out of the film. He is the Jar Jar binks of westerns. Broken Trail is also a really strong western; it is very well done. Any western that has Robert Duvall is worth watching.

I like westerns can you tell:D

Not much into westerns but one my continued re-watches is the Lonesome Dove series (Dead man Walk-Comanche Moon-Lonesome Dove-Streets of Laredo)

Once a year we also set aside a few weeks to watch Centennial. Hopefully that will come on BRD one day.

I tried to get into The Searchers due to the great reviews but i just couldn't.

But Tombstone is always enjoyable.

Unforgiven and Tombstone are both great westerns. I've got Tombstone on the Vista series DVD with DTS and Unforgiven on HD DVD, which looks pretty good. I don't know that I will need Tombstone on Blu-ray, this will take some thought.

I have the original SD DVD version and the Vista Series and I will pick it up on BD in anticipation of even better audio.
