Lengtheing an RCA Lead?

Is it possible to extend RCA feeds for greater runs?

The Monster RCA's I have going out from my Marantz CD changer don't seem to be long enough to reach the area I have designated for a new stereo receiver on the Bell'O rack it's all in; is there a male-to-female-to-male "extender" for RCA leads, and are they recommended? Will this present a signal degredation issue?

your better off buying the correct length cables, cheap not monster OPBS, or making your own to the exact length you need.

True but adding an RCA barrel connector from Radio Shack ain't gonna hurt nuthin'. ;)

Can someone send me a link to what this "barrel" connector is all about? Will this degrade signal transfer?

I can't find it on radioshack.com, but it looks like this:

Thanks, Serj.

But does this actually "extend" the cable lengths? What I need is for an extension of the run because it doesn't seem as though it's going to reach the area where the receiver will be, which it will plug into...

Well, which THEY will plug into (the stereo RCA leads).

They are female to female and allow you to connect two cables together to achieve a longer run. If you are worried about signal degredation then get cables that are the right length. The barrel connectors will work but cables that are long enough would be the ideal solution.

I understand that starting from scratch and getting the correct length would be the absolute best solution, but what I wanted to know was if extending cables this way actually does degrade signal quality, or should.

Extending analog audio cables WILL degrade quality. Whether or not you notice this degradation is very questionable.

If you are worried, at all, about signal degradation, and you have access to the cabling, then just get one of these in the proper length:

Seriously - $4.11 - just spend it for the right length of a quality cable. Return the Monster if you can (and never waste your money on it again).

Thanks for the confirmation here.

This looks good; thanks for the lead. The Monster RCAs I am using weren't as ridiculously priced as most of their stuff, but the issue is, I don't think they're going to work in terms of length in my new two channel setup.

I'll get these $4.11 cables you cite above, in the correct length, if my run is too short right now (which I believe it is).

Shipping isn't likely to get cheaper, but IMO, you are still saving money because the cables are cheap. Still seems like a deal.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply, J. So, do you think I should just order them? Are these likely to be as good as any so-called "premium" interconnect?

It doesn't seem weird though that shipping is more than the cable itself is worth?

What seems weird is that the cable is worth less than the shipping. Buy a bunch of other stuff and consider the shipping for that to be free if it makes you feel better. That's what I do when I get stuff from BJC. It makes me feel like I saved. :D

That's what I was essentially saying.

I unfortunately don't have anything else to buy from them...:(

Should I just pay for the shipping?

Hi Again Guys,

I wanted to purchase these 15-foot RCA cables based on the recommendations in this thread:

but the shipping is more expensive than the $4.00 cable is, making it seem stupid to me...would anyone be able to suggest another site that may have cables for cheaper with shipping, or does it make sense to pay more in shipping for these?
See if they'll let you pay $20 for the cable and give you free shipping.:D
