I have this Yamaha RX-V1500 for about 5 years already. At the end of the first year a known issue - "bad capacitor", according the technician, brought it down. Got it fix, but ever since it does not send signal to the sub-woofer unless surround sound encoding signal. So, normal CDs can not use the sub (7-channel stereo sends signal to any other speaker but the sub). Blue Ray has no problem - in surround sound encoded signal everything is fine.

Before I throw it away would like to ask - does anyone have seen this problem, and is there any fix for it?

On another point, shall I replaced with Marantz 6004? Got scared from some opinions about its reliability...

Thanks in advance!

Check to see what size your speakers are set to. You need to set them to small and then set the crossover for the sub to play.

The reason you get the sub with movies is because they have a specific LFE channel for the sub outside of the crossover settings that you may be using for your speakers.

You are 100% correct - I set the front speakers to small, and got back my sub! Completely slept over this thing...

Thank you for the advice!
