Few Questions on my speaker build

Hi all im new to this forum and this is my first post

I have a set of old technics speakers that the subs were ripped apart by cats ..
sb-1950 2 way speakers 12" and a horn tweeter floor standing speakers

and i have just sold my car and have kept my car stereo that had quiet a few subs and speakers

i also have a sony str-k1000p 6.2 1000w home theater amp

i have taken 2 fusion subwoofers EN-SW12ES and replaced the damaged technics 12" speakers used the orignal crossovers and horn tweeter from the technics speakers but it brings the impediance down to 4 omhz my amp says 6 omhz min ..

i have been running these at 4 omhz amp gets warm but hasnt cut out yet (lol) ive been thinkning of getting my other 2 fusion subs and bringing the omhz back up to 8 but to me im missing a bit of mid range so ive also been thinking about putting some fusion component splits in ? what would be the best option? and how would i go about it ? i know omhz series/parrallel but the components are lower wattage and higher responce rating this would cause the component splits to get more wattage than the sub and would more than likely destort before the sub got fead some real power

this is all the car audio gear i have..
4x 12" fusion subs 2 being used in technics boxes 2 left not used
1 pair fusion 6.5" splits not being used
2 pair fusion 5.5" splits currently used in pairs @ 8omhz for center and rear center
fusion 6x9 for rear surrounds @ 4omhz

also have a kicker cvr dual voice coil 400w rms running on responce amp powerd buy computer psu running off sub pre outs (LOL)

i dont realy want to kill the amp buy running it at 4omhz so i would like to raise the impediance to 8 omhz
should i just put up with no midrange and put subs in ? or should i just some how wire up the component splits

or then again ive been reading on raising impediance with resistors (but apparantly doesnt sound good because speakers impediance varies were resistors dont.. has anyone played with this before and can give some advice ?

(im not looking for the best sound out there if i was i would go buy a speaker package but im on a budget of nothing and just have to use what i have already)

and before anyone says it ive thaught about selling all the car audio gear and buying a good speaker pack but most of this car audio gear will go back into my next project once done so i would rather keep it and wait it out to buy a speaker pack

hope some one can help

thanks , muff
lol soz Long post :D

You've got far more issues than just impedance and whatnot to worry about. The "cat destroyed" drivers were the designating factor on how the enclosure was designed. You can't just throw another driver in there just because "it fits the hole". The fusion drivers you have need a specific type enclosure based on their T/S parameters. Also, the 12's that were in there were not technically "SUB" woofers. Just woofers. Adding a sub would be a terrible idea if you actually want any decent sound whatsover. You're better off buying new speakers.

Or starting at the drawing board to build your own. Unless you can find an exact or very close replacement to the drivers that are damaged, the enclosures you have now are useless.

I just re-read your post.

What you're thinking of doing shouldn't be called "audio". Keep your car gear in your car, go buy some new speakers.

I wish i could afford some new speakers im only trying to get some sound indoors without destorying my amp .. i know the orignal speaker would of had a totaly diffrent crossover range and the drivers i put in there are not suted to there enclosures and a other long list of factors ... but im on a budget of next to nothing and just want sound indoors

like i said if i wanted good sound i would go buy a marantz system or somthing like that ... but when u cant afford it you save and wait it out ... untill then you make do with what you have ..

You're not gonna fry amp most likely at a 4ohm load. If anything it'll go into some sort of protection mode. Surely you can get online and find a deal somewhere. Even spending 50-75 bucks will likely yield better sound that what you're gonna end up with.

You might be able to find a replacement woofer from partsexpress.com

Sell the car audio gear. What you are doing is audio suicide.

Your real problem is matching the old woofers, which is going to be pretty much impossible now. I think you realize that in part.

However, if you just want sound and the cost must be low, sell the car gear and take a small fraction of that and buy two 12" woofers from Parts Express like the ones HERE at $35 each and just don't go crazy with the volume.

I don't have time to explain why you should do this, but car audio drivers are not suitable for home stereo, matching your old drivers will be almost impossible, and attempting to do this right will require a lot of time, reading, money, and effort to do, so that rules everything else out.

The woofers I cited will match your amp. The sound may not be like the original woofers, but trying to match the old ones is like trying to spear a whale with a hand dart while blindfolded.

In this instance, paying more for a higher quality woofer will probably not improve the odds of better sound. If you want a more robust driver without spending too much more money, the Dayton Woofer is a good choice and costs $37 each (a bargain). You can always use them to DIY something better down the line when you have funds.

You just have to accept that you are not going to get to audio heaven, so just take the cheapest road you can and at least you will have sound.
