ive seen several processors that can process the codecs, they can be connected via hdmi, optical, coax etc, they are basically a receiver without an amp.

Even used $200 with the new codecs is pretty much impossible, however any pre/pro with multichannel inputs and a player that has on-board decoding will work. You can pick up Rotels in the $300 range.

if and when i purchase another receiver it will be a marantz, the one i have my eye on is like 1000 dollars. which is not feasible atm, i would have to save for a long time to get that (at least a year). i could get a cheap one from sony but last sony receiver i demoed was weak, it didnt have the high power output of the marantz i have that i like. if anyone knows of a receiver that can live up to its WPC specs closely with all channels driven that is not through the roof in price, feel free to recommend it.
Now you are just being silly and difficult.

Marantz makes a nice product, but by no means are they the end all be all.

There are options out there for less that will meet your needs…

...unless you have crazy difficult to drive speakers and listen to everything at max volume in a stadium, and even then I’m not sure Marantz would offer the best ROI in fact I’m sure of it.

well i do crank the volume at least 3/4 of the way for music, im not really sure how much power thats consuming though, i do know however i cannot drive my speakers with a 50wpc amplifier i have at a decent volume for music.

This should fit the bill. Sell your receiver, get this one, if you REALLY need more power down the road to really make those sony's sing, then add an external amplifier to the preouts and you're still less than 1000 bucks. If you start mentioning sound quality, i'm gonna cyber-kick you in the nuts.

Thats a preamp, and you ain't getting one with the new codecs for anywhere near 200 bucks.
Yep. USED, the Rotel 1098 with HDMI are over $1K and they don't even handle the latest codecs. That Emotiva IS a good price for what you are getting; if they get all the bugs worked out I will probably pick one of those up later this year.

An 82db 1w1m speaker @ 50 watts @ 10' is over 95dbs  89db1w1m gets you over 102dbs

110 dB = rock music concert, model airplane

106 dB = timpani and bass drum rolls

100 dB = snowmobile, chain saw, pneumatic drill

90 dB = lawnmower, shop tools, truck traffic, subway

lol, i now know that almost all amps have the same sound q, only reason i thought differently before is i ended up with a bad kenwood which made me think maybe they arent all the same, but someone explained to me that that model was a bad model.

Yeah, no doubt. The "HiFi" stuff with the new codecs bring a pretty penny. The Marantz refurb I posted seems to be one of the better options as a pre with the new codecs on a budget. Still doesnt have the latest and greatest features, but a nice unit for the price.

If you're receiver has multichannel in, you can get the Pioneer Bdp-320. I have it, and I would definitely recommend it. Lowest price I've seen is 150. A much better option than the Bd-80 from Oppo if youre not using dvda or sacd. If you're not so set on marantz, I would check out the new pioneer receivers that just came out, or refurbed denons from ecost.com
