So everybody is off the mark except you? ... ... Gotcha.

EDIT: krzywica and nibhaz have shown there support as well ... I submit that you take a look at his post history to disclose true rudeness to my BFFF Jerry Love, general bad info and contentiousness. I hate being singled out or accused of being party to an uncalled for witch hunt.
Hey Alex!

I definitely get where you are coming from but.... I think yepi may just be too young/uninformed to know what he doesn’t know.

This situation is only further exacerbated by his communication style and general lack of tact. :(

My support is merely for Seth, since he said that he urged at least this thread to be started and I’m giving his judgment the benefit of the doubt…

I’m sure that if yeti turns out to be true troll, Seth will be throwing him under the bus soon enough.

I would like to take threads on their own merit. You never know when that thread could be the one to change the tone of the op or posters in general.

I think a very heavy question was asked in:

1. Eagerness
2. Ignorance (of not knowing what a daunting task speaker development is)

It's a great thing to not be aware or consider your limitations sometimes.

The OP has been cool in this thread so I would like to see a bit more level headed responses.

Ok so he's serious about building speakers.

Let's see you build a nice pair of speakers. don't forget the rockwool or the bracing.

I'm going to stand up for yepimonfire (Jonathan) here and state that I do not believe he is a troll.

Alex, TLS Guy, Jamie, Isiberian, Swerd, and anyone else accusing him of being a troll just because he started this thread is ignorant to the reason the thread was started. I told him that he should start the thread so he could learn from the responses. Your responses, aside from parts of TLS Guy and Swerds' posts are deconstructive, rude, misplaced, un-called for, and from reading the posts on this thread and other threads he got slammed for it seems this all stems from intolerance toward Jonathan because he posts a lot and he defends his Sony speakers. It's perfectly reasonable for him to defend the speakers he owns, he likes them. I've been talking to him about reducing the amount of seemingly pointless posting like the thread about Klipsch.

What you have to remember is that when I joined AudioHolics I was as about the same age as Jonathan and had about as many pointless and incorrect information spewing from my posts. I learned because I was allowed to stay (thank the admin/mods). Not tooting my own horn, but I'm fairly certain many of you respect my knowledge and helpfulness in certain areas. I'm certainly no expert with speaker design, but I can see that Jonathan doesn't necessarily have all the pieces when it comes to designing and building speakers, but he does genuinely want to learn. He wouldn't have asked if he didn't want to.

All that said, I request that the insinuations that Jonathan (yepimonfire) is a troll come to a close.
I believe I introduced the word troll earlier in this thread, I’ll come forward and admit it.

Whether yepimonfire is a genuine troll or merely someone whose repeatedly annoying posts made him seem highly troll-like, despite his best intentions, remains to be seen. So far in this thread, he’s been good to his word about changing his tune. If that continues, I’m fine with him. So, yepimonfire, Seth=L has gone to bat for you. Don’t let him down.

Seth=L, nice job taking the lead on this, if you're right :).

i wrote a letter of apology concerning this and promised in it to be respectful and learn instead of being a hard head, i also stated in it i did not mean to come off as a troll, this post has nothing in it that makes me out to be a troll. i am also going to take the advice of some of the members here and read the books, and work on simple bookshelfs before attempting large and complex speakers.

thank you to all those who did give me helpful suggestions.

hopefully we can all move past this bickering and flaming and hopefully those of you with an axe to grind can give me a chance to learn and be respectful on here.

This is why I just stick to subwoofers..... too much complexity and variables in building speakers.... I'll continue to stick with subwoofers which are a far easier science.... :)

This thread is awesome.

Anyways, back to the main topic for just a second. 10k minimum. CMON! Thats asinine, I don't care how big of an audio snob you are. Its one thing to know your stuff and be proud of what you got, but if you're gonna completely write off a more budget option, then waste digital ink elsewhere. It certainly can be done for less. The benchmark is much lower here for most of us.

Ok, 3 12's op? Really? I'm kidding. You need to understand that what you're trying to ultimately accomplish doesn't require quite so much horsepower. If you're just listening to music, virtually any speaker/system that is -3db around 30hz will supply those "flawless" lows you're looking for. I think you might be surprised what smaller speakers and a sub are capable of. Your best bet right now is to set aside the drawing board and go listen to every speaker and combination you can. Once you understand what you like, and why you like it, then you'll be on a much better track to ultimately design a speaker for your tastes. I used to want massive speakers with lots of drivers cause I thought it would work "better". I love the elaborate simplicity that smaller two-ways can provide. Stereo subs satisfy the bass needs I have.

Its ok to "want" to build something crazy. Trust me, I understand it. When I first heard a sub in a car, I wanted to rush out and buy 4 18's and a an 8gigawatt amp. Once I understood the process a bit more, a single 10 did just fine.

In the end, if you still want a massive 3 or 4 way design, then more power to ya, but you'll likely be thrilled with the "less is more" approach.
