I know I'll catch all kinds of flack for this one, but the UPS man just brought me my copy of 2012 on Blu-ray. Saw it in the theater, yes its way over the top nonsense, but its a fun crazy ride, and all along I was thinking this has to be awesome with the Ultra :) ... I mean the earth is coming apart at the seams! Well, we'll see tonight. Oh, and I was pleased to see DTS :D on the box, although only 5.1.

Boy, that is a awesome review. Can't wait for beer and pizza and the of the of the earth with the Ultra.

Here is just a small tid bit -

"2012 splashes onto Blu-ray with an exquisite DTS-HD MA 5.1 lossless soundtrack. Suffice it to say, 2012's Blu-ray audio presentation leaves most every other soundtrack in the dust, and there's rarely a dull moment to be heard, not to mention the more intense disaster and destruction scenes that positively rock the listening area to its foundation and leave every speaker in the 5.1 setup begging for mercy. "

Let us know how the movie itself is, if it's worth buying or it's just a rental.

I bought this BR. I laughed throughout the whole film because of the ridiculousness of some of the scenes. The sound and video are pretty good. This is nowhere near the LFE beast as War of the Worlds or Fellowship of the Ring were, but still a good ride.

Just remember to throw all knowledge of physics out the window when you watch it! And have fun!

I agree, and a little disappointed in the LFE could of been much better, but was decent. The surrounds, I think, shined through.

Don't feel too bad...I paid to see it in the movies. I'm always ready to see the next incredibly lame formula for destroying the world. My bet is that I at least rent out the BD. Maybe this time I can figure out how the ocean got half way up the Himalayas, like where did 10,000 extra feet of water come from?

Bought it. Although it is a very cheesy production, I enjoyed it. I for one am sick of these almost animated productions. Why did we pay all this money on HD equipment to watch unrealistic video productions? JMHO:rolleyes:

The way the movie tried to explain it is that the various tectonic plates rose and sank because of the planet's instability. That combined with the worldwide tidal waves (caused by the plates moving and sinking) is what drove the ocean that high.

On another note, if you'd like a good end of the world read. There's a book by Stephen Baxter called "Flood". Unlike this movie it actually gives a believable end of the world story, whereby the himalayas are actually covered by water.

Stupid, long and poorly acted. I guess if you're 12 and a girl ...

No disrespect to 12 year old girls but they grow up and are responsible for Wife Time and chick flicks.

Avoid this like the plague.

Cheesy special effects.

Melodramatic.

I could probably go on but this should serve as fair warning. If you still watch it after reading this please let me know so that I can say 'I told you so'. I don't get a chance to say that very often and I really enjoy it.

Honestly though, that's about how I think I would feel if I were to watch it...

Agreed but I bought it anyway at Costco new for $1 more than its regular DVD counterpart. I guess its the cheesy affects is why I bought this BluRay. Haven't watched yet.

I kind of liked the cheesy special effects for the first hour and a half but the really bad acting in the last hour coupled with all the 'that was a close one' scenes and all the 'I love you, Dad' scenes in the last hour had put me off pretty badly. The thing is that I'm a pretty easy sell on movies. The only people that I can see liking this is people who enjoyed King Kong.

Oliver Platt was great but he always is. I like seeing that level of surliness brought to life. :)

I was watching this with a buddy of mine after having consumed a pinto or two and I've noticed that some effects were even cheezier than others *LOL*

Remember the limoousine jumping over a heaved up section of the road? Well as it was hurtling thru the air, the front tire was still as in not spinning. I attributed that too bad front wheel bearings on the driver side. :p
