Do the politics of dancing include a policy of truth?

It may be best to outlaw political threads. It seems that a healthy debate on any political topic is impossible here. It quickly degenerates into ugly mudslinging that, in the end, leaves nobody any more enlightened. In fact, most of the political threads start out ugly and go downhill from there.

It's odd that Audioholics and the vast majority of forum members stick with the facts and science of audio, yet when politics come up, people turn into the political versions of Stereophile, exotic cable and Bose fans.

You know it's typically a select few that drives this fact...

And since this one is sure to attract them, IBTL!

The mudslinging here is nothing compared to some other forums I have been in. Taunton Press has their Fine WoodWorking site and forums, with some very unreasonable people. The moderators did a very poor job there and it caused many people to leave completely, including me. One side wanted to discuss without being unreasonable and the other side, whose candidate won, had many traits that reared their ugly heads, with gravy and clusters. Some of them are women and they were the worst offenders. My skin isn't so thin that I run away as soon as someone tosses crap at me but this was the kind of thing that, if it had been face to face, I'm pretty sure it would have degraded to violence, unlike here. This is just a bit of name calling and disagreement. That was far worse.

The one thing I see in forums that causes the most problems is the apparent lack of editing by people before they post. It doesn't take long to read the whole response and make sure it won't be taken the wrong way or if it's too combative. There's no reason to fight, verbally, and when it comes down to people leaving AH completely because of disagreements in one area that only exists so people can vent their spleens, they're taking
it the wrong way and the people they're responding to aren't venting in the correct direction.

Nobody like to have crap shoved in their face by someone who disagrees with them. One time isn't as bad as when the other person just doesn't know when to stop and clearly can't bring themselves to see another opinion. When someone just doesn't know the facts and wants to start fights anyway, others should be allowed to correct them, but it's still not open season on them.

IMO.

There's an old saying that goes, "Never discuss politics or religion in a bar". Whether it happens in a bar is less of a factor now because these have become such hot topics that many people could be on Valium and still get wigged out over peoples' comments. There's a really easy way for the people who don't like political/religious threads to avoid being bothered by those- they should stay away from them. If a neighbor has a snarling dog in their yard, people should stay out if they don't want to be mauled. If they like being mauled, the gate can be opened.

I thought the Palin one went pretty good, for a while. (with a few exceptions):D

One thing that would help:
For example - If a member doesn't know about the differences in the quality of a circuit board in an amp, and how that might effect it's lifespan and / or durability. That member wouldn't dream of offering an opinion and possibly would avoid that thread altogether.

On the other hand, when it comes to political threads, members armed with nothing but an opinion and emotion,
will argue to the death about something they know little about, and have no first hand experience with.
Just my two cents.:)

What's the point of having strong convictions if that person can't be wrong?:D

I will occasionally dabble in some political arguments but rarely see the point in debating hopeless issues. Not that politics is hopeless, but unfortunately it seems that most people cling to the cliche that political stances are unwavering and no rebuttal is a justified cause to become open minded.

If everyone would just realize that when it comes to politics I'm always right, things would be a lot more civil around here.:)

K k k k k k k can't we all just get along?

Funny that no one was dancing in that Politics of Dancing video. I used to LOVE that song!! Man I miss the 80's. Best decade ever.

The Re_Flex album is one of my favorites from the 80s. Never saw the band live before so thanks for that! :)

Did someone want to explain what IBTL is, or it that only for the cool kids' table?

Also, what is that creature next to the deer? It needs to chew with its mouth closed.
