New HSU stf-2 in my house

I'm really impressed with this sub so far, after 4 days. What I can't figure out is why does this thing seem to perform so much better than my svs pc12+. On paper the svs pc12+ should be way better.

The HSU puts out bass I can hear and feel and it's integrated the way it should be as is the svs. I'm also using an aseq1 on my svs downstairs. They are both in very big rooms.

I guess my next move it to put them in the same spot and switch back and forth between them to test. Then maybe run them together for even more bass just for the fun of it.
any thoughts?

Placment affects a subwoofer's performance enormously. Did you have the subs in the same place? Where the ports on the PC12 somehow blocked? The STF2 is a great subwoofer, I used to have one and you can't really do better for the money, but the PC12 should be a lot more powerful. Maybe something was broken in the PC12.

I think the room in my basement is just the opposite of what produces good bass response. This morning I brought the pc 12 plus up stairs and put it in the exact same place as the HSU sub and they both pumped when I played the ending credits of the movie "whip it" I really like the tone of the HSU sub.

So now I need to figure out what the problem is in the basement. I'll switch blu ray players and eliminate that as the issue.

I used to have a pb12 and sold that because I wasn't getting the bass I wanted downstairs, then bought the pc12+ and still was not satisfied, so I bought the ASEQ1 and am still not satisfied.
I've spent so much money, that I really need to figure out what the problem is so I can fix it. Last resort would be to move the HT to another room and renovate the room into a dedicated HT.

Have you given any thoughts to bass trapping? It's probably the best bang for your buck addition you can make. EQ can help tame peaks but it's actually fairly limited compared to good acoustical treatment.

Also, have you tried "crawling" for bass? Your listening/sub position combo could just be unlucky.

I've had much the same experience with my PB12-Plus and STF-3. The Hsu seems to do everything as well as the SVS despite costing half the price. Also like you said, I really like the tone of the Hsu. Maybe your next step is to take the Hsu downstairs and see how you like it in the room that's giving you trouble.

Having said that, I also want to add that SVS has been a great company to deal with and has treated me personally very well. Great customer service and the sub really does kick some serious butt. Yet I also like my Hsu sub as much.

Bass trapping is relatively cheap. Some pre-made panels can be costly but that's mostly because they have custom prints and things to make them look better. Auralex, GIK Acoustics and ATS Acoustics are some places to start looking into. The DIY stuff from ATS is pretty cheap if you're willing to do some of the work yourself.
