AFAIK, I have always been 100% correct in recognizing trolls. Perhaps similarly as I have done for the last couple/few trolls I have reported, I reported this member on the very first day that he/she posted.

It was obvious, per usual, on day 1.

In my report, my second and final sentence, IIRC, was all of one word: "Obviously."

Also obviously, whoever reads my reports doesn't believe me, or doesn't care.

Reporting posts does absolutely nothing here.

I'm now going to simply rely on negative repping. I didn't hit this poster until today, about a week after my "report". But, now I have experience with what works, or should I say what doesn't work, in how to do my part in dealing with BS that people take so long to recognize. It's amazing how many people here can't even tell, for so long. Nutz.

My sense of toleration has been truly, and utterly diminished.

This guy is MUCH less obviously a troll than Shadowmonic, but enough where I'd still bet a lot of money that he's one as well. I just hit him.

And yes, I always check posting history. A big clue with Shadowmonic is the order in which the queries were given, in respect to title of given thread.

Thanks, again, Mike. I have the strong feeling that reports do more harm than good. This is NOT just applicable to AH. I reported that getech guy at AVS recently, maybe you're familiar. We had our respective posts deleted. Yeah, he wasn't given authorized dealership of JL or something (YEARS ago), and he's got near 40 posts over these years in the thread, always with the same intent. So, I was shocked to see he was still at it!!!

I report, I get a warning, I get posts deleted. I PMd Matthew B, asking him about how he was BANNED for reporting a true troll. In fact, he might have been banned more than once, all over the same troll? You have to ask him. In fact, I think he was banned here too? Seems a lot safer to just neg now, to me. Just for trying to inform you guys of the same troll? Nutz.

So, in a nutshell, as far as I have seen in my many thousands of posts, so many hours on such boards, reporting either puts you at a disadvantage, or does nothing. IOW, I have yet to come across a single experience where it is beneficial to report. Just my point of view on this, Mike.

actually, AH is actually easier to moderate than other forums ... them mod powers go to my head and banning people is just so easy , i'm not familiar (at least i dont remember him) with matthew b or why he was banned, but i'm pretty sure he wasn't banned for reporting a troll.

believe me, i've reported getech over at avsforum so many times as well, those avs guys are so lax sometimes i'm tempted to mess around over there just to see how many buttons i can push.

all of us get emails each time a report is made, and most of the time, 95% of the reports are acted on (i check, because i'm pretty OC to seeing unacted on reports, i skip the political reports because i don't have the high ground (or any ground) on US politics.)

Well, AFAIK, it's been 0% here. Honestly.

Once, recently, a thread was removed, because I posted something like, "Alex, hit him, I accidentally greened him!". I'm pretty certain Alex didn't even see it. A troll we have never talked about, otherwise.

Then it was gone in seconds. Repping, and posting, seems to do a whole lot more than reporting, in my own personal experiences.

Just letting you know how it's been on this end. Whatever, right? Exactly. That's why it's going to be red city now. Because reporting doesn't seem to do anything at all, or otherwise it even does worse than intended, 100%, yes, 100.000% of the time.

Subwoofers to buy IMHO

My reply is informational. If this is a troll response as Jostenmeat seems to indicate, then I have only minimally wasted my time. At this point, I am still treating OP as a newbie that has lots of questions.

Depending on the budget...

First I would look at Dayton 120HT-SUB as low as $120 from Parts Express

Now, you didn't mention room size, if you have a large room you might need two.

To get the best subwoofer sound, do a "sub crawl" which means moving the sub around to the possible locations in your HT and determine which location sounds best.


If you budget $$$ is larger then i would look at Hsu or SVS subwoofers. They are excellent subwoofers.

I have the SVS PB12-Plus and I am very pleased with it. It costs $1149 and will handle up to a fairly good size medium room.

If you are a true sub junkie and have lots and lots of $$$$ then look at the JL Fathoms. Start with the f112 $2,200- $2,700
