OK,maybe somebody here knows what's changed. I joined Netflix because you can choose a new release and have it in two days no problemo.

As of the last couple weeks, when I choose a new release, it says "long wait" or "very long wait" and skips over the movies I've chosen to movies lower on my queue.

I've seen the "wait" and "very long wait" message before, but never had to REALLY wait...

In the between time, I'm walking in Blockbuster and the movies I'm waiting for like "Hurtlocker" are so well stocked they are falling off the shelf...

I'm thinking about leaving Netflix... anyone else have this problem?

i saw that to, a while ago.. it seemed like shipping was getting slower and slower.. and they would not register the movies i sent back as fast.. it seemed liek they were doing it to slow down the rentals..

i switched to block buster online and now I can take a mailed movie back to the store and get a free instore rental .. so if i cant wait i can get something ASAP.

although they still seem slow to record movies that are shipped back and slow to get them out.. it seems..

i think if pushed they will say the mail is goin gslower now.. since the post office has maybe made cutbacks??

Lets just said I waited for BattleStar Galactica Season 1 disk 1 for about 6-7 Months....
I found alternative ways to get movies faster than netflix does...
I didn't mind paying them, but stuff like this plus intentional delays in delivery made say goodbye to them few years ago...

there is a thread here, that says they are delaying new releases on purpose. a deal with the studios, in the hopes that you will buy it, instead of waiting for the rental. least thats how i understand it.

i used to think they only had so many movies to go around, and i had to wait in line.

how about this = call them up. tell them that if you do not get them right away. you will cancel. see what they say. and get the name of the person you talk to. so you can talk to him/her when you do cancel. this will send them a message that the studios are sabotaging their business.

I'm sure there will be people that disagree with me again, but I will say it again. Netflix SUCKS and it's a perfect example of large companies trying to muscle their way into a position of high market penetration then flex with unbelievable nonsense in order to try to change the market. Consumers determine market direction. If Netflix continues to operate in this fashion you can bet the consumer will out it in favor of something else.

Techniques like these don't bode well for a few reasons.

* The customer wants to see new releases when they come out on DVD. Many folks don't go to the theater and wait for the release to come to DVD/Blu-ray/streaming Netflix etc... If anything is known about Americans and similarly developed countries is that we are impatient.

* Quality has clearly become a non-issue if you are just wanting to see a movie. I watched a streamed movie on Netflix that was supposed to be 720p. It was compressed and looked horrible. I can't account for the sound as it was being played through a Bose 3-2-1 system.

* Because quality is less of a concern to Joe Blow it's likely Joe is going to start finding alternative ways of getting his movies ASAP, maybe even before it comes out on DVD heaven forbid.

The end result is Netflix takes a blow to it's customer base. The studio takes a blow when more people start watching pirated movies. It's like Netflix put this nice big juicy steak in front of you and jerked it away. You don't want to go back to dry overgrilled steak from Blockbuster, great Scott! you would have to drive there! But after being tantalized with the Netflix oh so perfect steak you are unable to accept anything less convenient, and now Joe thinks he can get juicy steak for free and months ealier than expected.

Oh boy, Netflix is just rolling along quite nicely. I have added them to my personal "I don't care a damn thing about it" list which also includes iTunes. At least iTunes doesn't delay in releasing the newest music though, could you imagine if they did. All those poor people that bought iPods to replace their CD players would have to get CD players again since the person would be forced to buy CDs, or they could just jailbr.............aaaah nevermind.;)

Oh and keep your eyes peeled for investment ops ladies and gentlemen, if this Netflix thing goes south someone will have to replace it with something as functional or better.

whine, whine, whine.

I've never had any issues with Netflix, and most of the crappy new releases really aren't worth our time anyway. I can't think of any new release that's even worth seeing. Seriously the quality of the films have gone down more than the quality of Netflix. That being said I never have any issues getting what I want from Netflix. Considering they have a distribution center in Coppell. You will get a 2 day turnaround on discs.

Who cares if the time is 27 days more can you seriously not wait 27 more days? There are far bigger problems in the world than waiting another 4 weeks for a new release or waiting in line for a new release. If it's too much for you and you must have your movie the next day then go to block buster or buy it.

I'm not sure I get the point of your post... When I looked at the name of this room, I saw it was called "Steam Vent", so I blew off some steam about Netflix.

Now I understand you are a Netflix cheerleader, but I'm not. I've gotten used to great service which then degraded to OK service. As a consumer, when my service downgrades, I want answers.

I signed up for the free trial, during that time, the turn around was awesome, sent in a DVD and the next day it was filed as received and the next one was shipped. After I started paying for the subscription, it would take two days to be filed as received and then my next one wouldn't ship until the day after that. Unless of course I hadn't been around the house and the movie had just sat around for a week, then when I sent it in things went quickly. That showed that they were throttling me enough for me to cancel.

End Rant

I been ranting about exactly same things over and over again - LET ME Repeat again I 100% agree with above, and this has NOTHING to do with WB deal about 27 days new releases delay.

I don't mind waiting x amount of time will DVD will becomes available, but FFS keep you "about one day" turnaround and DON'T SEND ME DISKS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTY (*), Disk not yet available locally ? Just send me next one in the list.

I live in NY and WTF I should be getting disks from WA ??

So it's supposedly a good movie, but I've never even heard of it. I think that explains why the wait is so long. I'm no cheerleader I'm a paying customer that's had no issues. Depending on how you mail your piece will determine turnaround time. If you mail it in the envelope it's sent with it will be sent as fast as your credit card offers to them. It will then be sent back this fast. The fastest way to get it there is to drop it in a post office blue drop box at the post office before the empty time. Sometimes using your own mail box will result in additional delay of 1 day. Also remember the Post Office celebrates many holidays too. As the post office has multiple machine processing millions of mail pieces it's also possible for delays to happen there too. Netflix envelopes are not standard sized mail pieces so the potential for issues is a little higher. Still the system they have is very efficient for a mail based company.

People always complain and that's fine things don't improve without it, but still Netflix is easier than the old system. I'm sure someone will come up with a better model in the future, but for what it is. It's a very good service. Growing popularity adds new complexities to companies. So I'm sure this is part of the growing pains.

i'm with Isi on this one. netflix has been pretty good to me. a few glitches, probably not their fault. a nice phone call had em on their knees waiting to service me.

i always drop mine in a curbside mailbox. as i don't want my mail person to take em home with em. drop em in monday, have em back wed.

BUT
if they start screwing that up, i will be gone.

I think he is calling in to question your defense of Netflix. I understand that you like the service and that you have no problems with it. However what I've read about other people's experience it seems pretty clear they aren't all they are cracked up to be. I understand his frustration towards Netflix, and while you aren't frustrated with them that's fine and well but I don't think it's right for you to necessarily step on his toes about it.

Some people hate and refuse to buy Toshiba products because they sold military parts to Soviet Union during the cold war. I personally don't care, but I respect those that do and don't chastise them for not buying their products based on something that happened long ago. The difference here is that Netflix promises a service, and then doesn't seem to quite hold up their end of the deal once you are paying them for it.

I just started Netflix a few weeks ago. Service was astonishingly fast for the mail service. OTOH, the streaming IQ is pretty poor. Since I just cancelled my Dish movie channels (at about $60/mo) I'm pretty happy with Netflix overall (at $15/mo).

Wow, lots of Netflix hate. I love netflix. I've been a subscriber for a couple years and have not experienced any of the problems mentioned in this thread. Turnaround is about two days. Streaming has gotten me hooked on several shows that I had never even heard of before (Dexter rocks!). I think it is unfortunate that they signed a deal with WB to delay new releases in exchange for more streaming content. I have a feeling that will backfire on them. I would rather have a feature release on Blu-Ray. I reserve streaming to TV shows and B movies.
