Hi all. I have recently been bitten by the upgrade bug for a new receiver and will be purchasing it once I redeploy back home. I have been looking at the Denon 2310 as an option and was wondering "is the zone 2 remote RF based?"

I bought a new home last year and have speakers routed as a zone 2 to my back porch for card nights and BBQ's but my current set up only has a "speaker B" option so I have to listen to the same source and can't have the music up louder outside without drowning out everyone on the inside. I usually have music set up through an xbox 360 streaming MP3's on a random shuffle for parties and get togethers. so a true zone 2 appeals to me as long as I can control the volume and source from outside.

I also welcome any other advice for receivers or setups to help accomplish the above task.

Thanks in advance

I don't know of any out of the box curent receiver remotes that are RF. Most people use a universal/RF solution from URC, Logitech, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I'll look into perhaps getting a harmony 890 if I can get a good deal on it but that would be used as a primary remote and I don't know if I'd want to have it outside for long periods. maybe I could just go for the 1910 and use the extra cash from the budget on the remote.

Search no more, get this for $80:
http://www.amazon.com/RFS200-PowerPak-Bundle-MasterControl-PowerBlaster/dp/B000FL9E6U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265242560&sr=8-1

The remote by itself is $55, or perhaps the cheaper RF10 might fit the bill for $45. I usually see the RF20 at $50, but seems to be $5 more right now.

Anyways, for the price of the Harmony 890, you can get the RF200 system package, + 2 extra remotes, for a total of three remotes. With a bit of change in the pocket.

One other issue to remember is that you will need to use analog connections for your zone 2 sources. I don't know if an xbox outputs to both the analog and digital ouputs. I have heard this is an issue with PS3's but I don't know about the xBox.

Wow - that seems like a great deal compared to some of the Logitech units I've looked at. Does it compare well in functionality? I'm in a similar situation - looking for an RF remote (and also have the AVR-2310:D). In my case my SO wants all components hidden. Thanks for the referral!

Thanks for the heads up! I didn't realize that was a limitation of the zone 2. I was planning on having everything routed either hdmi or fiber optic. Are there any recievers that will decode digital sources to a stereo zone 2 setup?

I am sure you know this, but the 2310 does come with a remote for Zone 2.

Zone 2 works fine for 2 channel music with this receiver.
I only use it for radio and CD player.
