Looking for Cheap Universal RF Remote

The problem would lye when trying to select the correct processing mode for 2 channel content. I would want PLII for TV shows and "straight mode" for 2 channel music listening. This would be easy to select as there is one button for straight and one to toggle surround modes...and hitting the straight button multiple times does nothing......however hitting the surround button multiple times toggles surround modes....which I do not want....

Unfortunately, no remote will solve that problem for you unless it is capable of two-way communication and can either ask the receiver what mode it is currently in or take care of that itself (which is how current 'two-way' devices work since no consumer gear is two-way).

On the issue of remote control 'codes', they are just a sequence of numbers delivered using some communication protocol (nearly always NEC 1/ NEC 2 for devices that use IR). The big long string of hex digits you can find is the sequence of numbers that include the bits that are the protocol itself as well as the ultimate number that means 'do this function'.

The issue is that unless you can teach the remote the codes from an original remote, there is often no way to feed the remote a string of numbers (whether in hex or decimal) or to update the pre-programmed codes without sending it back to the manufacturer.

Meh....I've had a few LH's in the past and while they were ok, they just didn't quite do it for me. When I moved on and sold it I never really missed it for a second. You would think if it was for me then I would have missed it a little at least ya know? I have never owned a URC remote and would love to give them a shot. I have a question into them so we will see if I end up getting one or not.

I think they came up with that...its called the "doomsday device".

Because when we finally figure them out it will be the end of the world by then.

Yeah thats kinda what I was afraid of. I guess I can always have it learn all the remote codes....but how much of a PITA is that!

had my 520 over 2 years with no hitch works great and programming was simple. i have programmed the master control more than once and it was much more complicated than the harmony.

If it's a bluray player, but not a Sony player or at least older Sony, perhaps shotgun outputs like a pair of RCA stereo as well as the HDMI. Assign that for 2ch duties, and problem solved? Or hopefully mitigated. In fact, maybe S/PDIF for TV, RCAs for stereo, and HDMI for blurays/dvds?

The URC is much easier. Even my friends, brother, his gf, anyone who has operated both absolutely agree. One friend in particular, whose setup I may coordinate, with shiny new 65V10, has specifically stated that he "HATES" my old Harmony. His parents have a URC. I'm not sure what he'll get if anything at all.

Yeah.....I wouldn't say I have a hatred for it....but certainly not a need.
