my brother had got these from a guy in a white van(back in 2003, for 150-200$ for the pair.), back when I was 15, he used these for YEARS, gave them to me when I turned 18, I never even plugged them in, but today(I decided to research), I went to go get them out of a storage shed a week ago, I was looking for the name "audiofile 583LR" I searched reviews on audioreview.com, then google, and sure enough they are some CHEAP POSs, I will have to sell em on craigslist or something.

My brother was scammed, that sucks for him.(me too now I guess.)

Well, Now I am looking for a good set of Yamaha NS-777, or Yamaha NS-555.

What one should I get? about 95% movies/XBOX360/PS3, 5%music.

I don't like the sound to be super high, but nice and sharp.

Thanks.

What's your budget?

What size is your room?

Will you run a sub?

What's your constraints?

I wouldnt sell em, you would be cheating somebody else out of their money and in fact promoting this companies POS on another person who may or may not know it's junk or worse destroy their gear.

Best take it as a lesson learned, use the speaker as kindling and toss out the drivers after first taking a knife to em.

The tower speakers to look at in that range would be:

EMP E5Ti towers

Infinity Primus P362's
Elemental Designs A6 6T6 towers
BIC Acoustech PL-89 towers

Also, I don't think your subwoofer scheme will be as good as if you just buy one good sub. Two sub systems have advantages, but only if their performance is above a certain point. Those Dayton subs, while not bad for their price, won't sound that sharp next to a single well-designed sub for the same cost. Besides that, on some of the tower speakers listed above, the bass is good enough that using mediocre subs would just hurt the sound rather than help. The Infinity and BIC Acoustech can probably handle bass better than those subs. If you want a sub that will compliment your proposed system better, look at the entry level subs from Hsu research, Elemental Designs, or Outlaw Audio. Perhaps also the BIC Acoustech PL-200 sub.

What is the other gear/size of the room your working with, also are you bent on using Yamaha speakers?
I sure like M&K or JBL for movies, the industry does also.
Took in a movie at a theatre the other day, nothing but commercial JBL gear completed with a $4.50 soda pop.

The BIC towers are very sensitive speakers, they will absolutely rock with relatively little power. In fact, if you compare their sensitivity to any of the other speakers mentioned, they will get twice as loud for the same amount of juice. While all of those speakers can playback painfully loud volumes with relatively little distortion, I think the BICs would probably have the greatest dynamic response. If you like action movies and FPS video games, I think you will enjoy those speakers.

However, since they have fairly deep bass, it wouldn't make sense at all to get the subs you were looking at, since the towers would have better bass. If you were to get the BIC's, I would advise you to just skip the subwoofer until you can afford something which would actually play deeper bass than those towers are capable of. Subs like that start at around five to six hundred dollars, I am thinking of subs like the ED A3-300, Hsu VTF2.3, Outlaw LFM plus, or SVS PB12.

Thanks ShadyJ, I think I will go with them, but I will get the towers first, I am going to cancel my order on the subs, and order the towers.

I have never ordered from overstock, but it seems like a pretty big company.

Overstock is a good company, I have ordered from them before and had no problems. It is large and has a very good record of service, even though the CEO is known to be pretty eccentric.
