I got the same e-mail... Those cabinets remind me of the Infinity Primus cabinets sans the ports.

The Primus aren't MTM.
Maybe I should drink my morning coffee before posting.

Wow, you're just posting up ALL the cool deals lately. This is pretty tempting. Too bad I've finally got an all Boston system. I'd hate to throw off the timbre match with a new speaker. But if you do end up building this kit, be sure to let us know how it sounds.

Yep, saw this one in the flyer last week. Seems like a pretty good deal, though you need to note that these are the cabinets only and the x-over and driver kit is an additional $99 right now; still an excellent deal IMHO.

Yeah, total price for the pair of floor standing speakers is $217.

My bro-in-law just ordered this kit up (components only, no boxes). I want him to build the TL design, he is not sure which way he wants to go. It'll be fun to hear them when they are done.

In the meantime if anyone has heard the TL design it'd be good to hear your impressions.

Has your brother-in-law built these yet? Any impressions?

I have the TL design and they sound amazing. They go as low as about 40hz though they shine with imaging and clarity. These things should sell for 4 or $500 (maybe more) they are really that good. Since these sound this good I now wonder how the mini statements sound.

Did you put a finish on them?

My bro-in-law built these up as a sealed MTM. They sound good within the design limits of the sealed design. We compared them to a pair of overnight sensations he built and they are in a completely different league than the overnights. We also compared them to a pair of DIY speakers I built using relatively expensive audax drivers and if I had to choose I would still pick my speakers but the differences were small. The sealed MTM's had some coloration in upper midrange that I did not hear with my speakers. I also think mine presented a larger soundstage. Given mine are ported, all be it a small ported design .27^3 ft they sounded much better in the bass region than the sealed MTM design. I could not tell a difference in tweeter performance between the two.

He is toying with the idea of building the TL boxes, I still think he should.

Overall I think the TriTrix is a worthwhile investment.

Dumb question, but the TriTrix sealed MTM are in a different leaque than the Overnight Sensations in what way - better or worse?

Tritrix are better than the Overnight Sensations. The overnight's sound as if a blanket is thrown over them compared to the tritrix. The tritrix tweeter is so much more revealing, clean, clear, etc. Because of the numbness of the overnight's high end it seems to accentuate the boominess in the low end and you get a dull and boomy sound compared to the tritrix.

Now we thought the Overnight Sensations were a good little speaker in my bro-in-law's house when we listened to them and nothing else. Once we did the comparison though, it was clear that even though the overnight's may be good for the money, the Tritrix were definitely worth the additional cost in parts, build complexity, etc.

All of this is of course my humble opinion!

Wow, haven't been on the forum this long since December...feels good to post something.

Thanks for the input.

I was actually considering building a pair of the Overnights or the Tritrix TM as a first step into DIY. Seems the Tritrix might be the way to go...
