subwoofer power switch broken?

I just got my subwoofer out of a storage place and found that the on/off switch is not working properly. Basically I can't turn it on unless I unplug it and then when I see the blue light coming on and quickly plug it back in. And it can stay on the whole time. But when I connect it to my receiver, I don't hear any response and it quickly overheats. So is my subwoofer basically useless now? Thanks for your answers in advance.

The amp needs service. It is not the switch. Protection is cutting in. The output devices seem to be consuming too much current. What is the sub, may be it is worth fixing or reamping?

Thanks for the answer. The switch is actually physically broken. I mean it probably got lodged out of its original position because it is a kind of rod switch and the rod is not attached to its original place firmly and now it is loose. My model is energy esw-8. But somehow when i unplug it and then plug it back in it can stay on for a few minutes but the whole subwoofer becomes very hot to touch. It might burn if i don't turn it off.

If it physically damaged you can't use it. It is a hazard. Switches are no longer simple, but complex on off circuits these days. Unless you are experienced in repair you won't fix it yourself. If the unit has got that hot, I suspect the damage has spread severely in the electronics. I'm surprised the fuse has not blown. I would be suspicious of tampering here.
