My main speakers are front and rear ported. How far should I move them out from the wall, or how close can I put them to the wall?

I really dont know other than to say "test it and see what sounds best"

Someone else will probably ask what brand/model they are

The manual for my rear ported subs says no closer than 6". I know that you have them jammed up there pretty tight and think that the further out you can live with, the better ... and I think you should switch out the right sub with the right speaker to get that sub out of that deep corner. ;)

I picked up a small side job that I need to wrap up and then I'll make arrangements with you to get out there and hang that TV.
I didn't forget and I ain't scared. :)

I think you're right with that sub, so I'll set the mains up at least 6" away. I'll move that sub today, like right now.

To get a real answer about that rear firing port business I would PM anunaki with woofer and port sizes. There is some sort of rule on that based on the dimensions of something. In all seriousness I would pull your stuff out 6 inches past what you're comfortable with looks wise and what your wife will accept. Then listen to it and push it back an inch or two per week sacrificing sound quality and gaining your room back until you hit a happy medium ... instead of cramming it all against the wall and into corners only to move it out incrementally. You might need to buy your wife like a new car before you do this though. :D

I pulled them out about 10" and they sound and look good. BTW my wife want's a Lexus too. She said I should take the Civic since I only drive about 1mile a day. Your Carver is sitting here all wrapped up, come and get it>

FWIW, In one of the Audioholic reviews, they suggested using a 1.5 multiplier for the port diameter (thus 6" clearance for a 4" diameter port) as a rule of thumb.
