eD A3-300 impressions

Well, I've finally completed my setup: 21txh as my receiver, 5.0 EMP impression series, and now eD's A3-300. It took me a little while to pick out a sub, and I was initially going to get something smaller, but I wanted to make sure I did it right the first time, and boy am I glad I did.

The A3-300 rocks. For $550 shipped to my door, I couldn't ask for anything else. I know I have it smushed away in the corner, but I did the room crawl and it sounds great all around.

So, for my listening tests, I have all speakers set to small, sub crossover on the receiver at 80 hz, 0.0 dB on the receiver and the gain on the amp about a quarter of the way up. The result, pure clean bass for normal listening, earth shaking LFE at higher volumes.

I've watched Terminator Salvation and The Dark Knight with it for my extreme bass test. Holy cow.. the couch shakes like crazy during the opening sequences of both movies. But obviously that's not where it stops.. My favorite part is in the tunnel scene of The Dark Knight and when the bat mobile is skidding, you can literally "feel" the tires skipping off the pavement of the streets. It's something that you just have to experience...

Music sounds great, of course with rap it hits. But I don't notice any muddiness. Remember, I'm not a pro here so for your average guy, I think it's amazing. Let me say too, I never auditioned any of the equipment, I just pieced the entire system together from everyone's opinions online, so thanks for the help. But now after adding the sub, I couldn't be happier with the performance and quality of the setup. I'm still just blown away with it all. So any questions, let me know. But I give the A3-300 a solid 2 thumbs up and now have a constant smile on my face everyday!

Yeah I mean, that's just it, it literally feels like a whole new world in my living room. Before I had anything set up and was listening to movies through the drab television speakers, movies started to lose meaning for me. But now, I can just get so wrapped up in whatever I'm watching. It's a shame there's probably a ton of people out there that get the nice television for the picture, but don't think twice about the sound... I used to be one of those people haha

You put together quite the system in a short amount of time.;)
Thanks! I was going for the best bang for my buck, and I think I hit it.. After EMP's sweet deal, and including all cables and mounting hardware, I spent around $1800 (that's just the audio portion anyway). It sort of sounds like a lot (at least to anyone who isn't down with this stuff), but I think back to when I went in to Best Buy and they were trying to sell me a pair of Klipsh towers for $1200. I was like, yeahh there's gotta be a better way to do this. Granted, I know they were nice speakers, but I'm just saying there's a ton of online dealers out there that'll hook you up.

Very nice setup, I have a A3-300 as well. Terrific sub, it is very difficult to find better performance for the price. Placement actually makes a big difference with this sub (as with any sub), so if you have room to experiment, try to do so. It really payed off for me and the A3.

Thanks; yeah before I settled on where it's at, I moved it around the room a bit, having it directly in front of me to how it's positioned in that corner, and I thought I got similar performance no matter what. I just had to keep that port open (even though it's slightly blocked at the moment), I can't tell a difference with the table there or not so it kind of works out. I pushed my speakers back though because prior to doing so, the right front was in front of the port and I lost a ton of output. But it all sounds great now so I'm happy.

Thanks man; I actually think it was because of a comment you made in another thread that helped my decision.. Better watch what you say haha! But yeah I couldn't be happier...

Thanks for the update Tungsten - was hoping you'd post once you got yours. I'm on a Pioneer VSX21 too, so was hoping it would play nice with the eD.

I ended up ordering the A5-350 and am eagerly awaiting it, will post results when I get it...

Yeah definitely post what you think. With size no issue, I would have loved to get the A5-350, but I was under some strict restraints to maintain the WAF haha... Either way, if I haven't said it enough, I'm lovin the A3-300. So congrats, you'll soon be another happy customer too!

Hey quick question: do you guys think my sub orientation is ok in the pictures above? Obviously I have it crammed into a tiny space, and I sort of have to keep it in that corner (waf), but is it best to keep it pointed out into the room like that or turn it towards the wall? I've got about 10 inches beside and behind it to the wall.

I guess, what are some things I should watch out for?
