So on the back of the receiver, those black and red plug inputs...they ripped off because my stand tipped over and the wire yanked it out. How do I fix this? Apparently you can't screw it back on...

Can you post pictures, so we can see the exact damage?

I think you mean the speaker outputs. The case is likely going to have to be opened and new sockets mounted and soldered.

I dont have my cam with me...

It was the speaker binding that basically tore off from the back of the receiver..there is a silver plate on the back of the receiver still..i guess it was attached to that?

Then you have a major repair on your hands.

Roger that!

Don't switch it on as the insulation on the binding posts may be damaged creating shorts.

My friend Soldered it but it still didn't work..might check on audiogon and see if I can get something good.

The wait time to fix the receiver where I am is about 3 weeks at a lot of places and will run me over $100..

What did your friend solder If he soldered new output sockets then it should have worked, unless there is other damage, which is quite probable.

You can't repair the sockets, and if he tried he almost certainly caused a short.

The sockets have to be replaced, not repaired. $100 sounds cheap for the work involved by the way.

If you can find one now; they go for about $400.
Or the it's successor the SR507 is also $400.

On the one hand if the problem is just replacing the speaker sockets, he should come out below $200 I would think.

On the other hand the thing has been dropped and now messed about by someone who does not know how to get the job done. So it might end up having cracked circuit boards and or blown output devices.

What would you suggest?

If he buys new, he knows his cost, but we recycle more electronic junk. We all know it is not recycled but moved to parts of the world where we don't see the havoc.

If he takes it in for repair he has thrown the dice.

Whatever his decision he needs a much more stable installation before switching on a repaired or new unit.

I agree Mark.
If the 506 really hit the ground hard, who knows what internal damage awaits.
Sounds like the OP will have to weigh the repair costs against getting something new or used, and perhaps even better.
Maybe a small mom and pop shop would do the repair cheaper?

Why not get an estimate from a local shop?

Typically, the estimate charge is pretty cheap (ask them ahead of time). If you do not like their estimate then do not get it fixed.
