HDMI cable and no signal

I recently got the rogers 8300 pvr with the intention of hooking it up through my receiver. Initially, my setup was a HDMI connection to my receiver and then to my TV (all using HDMI connections). However, my TV did not receive a signal. I tested the receiver to TV HDMI connection and it works fine. However, the PVR to TV using 3 different HDMI cables did not work.

Rogers tech suggested using the RGB video cables. I would like to use the HDMI cables to ensure a digital connection between my devices. What could be the problem?

My TV is the Sharp Aquos 40" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV. THe real issue that I can't get the TV to even recognize the scientific atlanta signal.

Thanks

This is a known problem with a lot of those Scientific Atlanta boxes.

HDMI is a two way communication. A TV is an end device and only has to make an initial certification handshake via the HDCP codes.

A receiver is also a transmitting device, and is required to make repeated handshakes under current HDCP code rules. A lot of those Scientific Atlanta boxes do not have repeater architecture and can only be connected to a TV via HDMI.

Get them to replace your box with an up to date one that has repeater architecture.

Maybe you can try setting your TV to Auto DVI/HDMI when you are in the menu, (not hidden menu)

Sure, if this issue is from the TV, most likely it's the box.
Is there another way to fix this, maybe a firmware update?

There could be a firmware update. The OP will have to ask his provider. This lack of repeater HDCP architecture is a known problem with the OPs boxes.

The problem is not a handshake issue as there is no error message supporting that. it just dies when i connect it to the TV. I think this is a hardware issue on the PVR

In that case I'm totally confused by your first post.

You said connecting the pvr via your receiver and then to the TV produced no signal at the TV is that correct?

I guess i dont have much of a choice if that is the only box that is provided by Rogers. Im going to try a new box and see what happens.

TLS Guy , that is correct that is the setup I have now. My receiver is the LG 5.1 Channel Home Theatre System (HT904SA).

I'm assuming that the answer to my question is "Yes." If that is so you won't get an error signal at the TV as nothing will be passed through the receiver.

Make sure your box is the latest and has the latest firmware.

The rogers people came in today and checked the PVR . Indeed, they did acknowledge it was a malfunctioning HDMI port. There's nothing wrong with the reciever or TV. all works now.
