I thought I heard that Bill Cowher wanted to coach again. I think Carolina, and the Bucs have talked to him. I wonder if the Bills talked to him?
He was on the A list but I don't think he wanted the Bills job. Several candidates had turned them down and Chan Gailey looked to be the only option. He sure sounds like a D1ck Jauron clone and that would suit Ralph Wilson...hey his coaching record is 18-14 with Dallas, he can't be any worse than Jauron:rolleyes:.

The Bills coaching search from what I have followed has gone like this.

Two day interview with Mike Shanahan (offering him up to $10 million per year)....didn't want the job

Interviewed Perry Fewell the interim headcoach of the Bills after the Jauron firing

Some reports say there were secret interviews with Bill Cowher, other reports say there was no contact. They would be willing to pay him up to $10 million per year.

Interviewed Leslie Frazier of the Vikings.

Had interest in the offensive co-ordinator of the jets...he declined an interview

Interviewed Harbough from Standford? and offered him the job...he declined...

Chan Gailey, the new Buffalo Bills headcoach  . I am interested to see who he brings in as his co-ordinators and if he will call the offensive plays.

Gailey is an improvement on Jauron, but I am not optimistic he can turn around this pathetic organization.

The dust has cleared and my anger has subsided. We had a great year, but our O-Line got owned by Minnesota.

Of the remaining teams I hope the Jets run the table and win this thing. Rex Ryan is a very good coach and I wish we'd gotten him instead of Phillips, but Phillips/Romo have finally proven they can win in the Playoffs. The last time we got beat like that in the divisional round we won the Super Bowl next year. Well Honestly that is the dream now.

Still enough of the Cowboys. The Jets played some very impressive football and they are my pick to beat the Colts.

Go Saints and Jets.

Still Colts-Saints would be the dream matchup.

Gailey isn't that good he couldn't even win with the great Cowboys team of the 90s. I think you can do better than that.

He did take over a aging superbowl winning team well past its prime though. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with his time in Dallas. It looks like he will be calling the offensive plays based on the press conferenace. He is open to the 34 defense as well. Like I said earlier he is an improvement on Jauron (but who isn't?) but I am not excited either....wait and see I guess.

Well he's a great offensive mind for sure(early 90s steelers). He got run out of town by Troy Aikman in Dallas though. Troy wanted no part of the West Coast offense.

I heard a Dallas media guy hinting at the Aikman relationship today while commenting on the Gailey hire in Buffalo and that Aikman wanted a more balanced attack and was influential in him getting let go. He also seemed to of thought that Jones regretted firing him in the end.

Is anyone's team still in it?

Maybe someone here can still enjoy a Super Bowl win. I hope so there is nothing like watching your team win a Super Bowl.

At least one of the teams I like will be in the big game. Either our sister team or big brother's team will be there. I would also like to see the Vikings in it. Nothing against the Saints, I just like the Vikes.
Looking forward to the games this weekend.

What does eveyone think of the pro bowl being played before the SB this year? They can't let the players from the 2 SB teams play. That would be stupid to risk injuries. But then we'll be missing some of the best players in the PB. I guess they figure that no one watches the PB anyhow and this might spark more interest.

So Darien, what do you think about the contract extension of Norv Turner? I think it is for 3 years? Lorenzo Neil was on Jim Rome today and was quite critical of Norv :p . He is still an apologist for LT, errrr LDT's poor play though. Did Neil ever play under Norv? I know he was there for Marty ball.

Wade also had his 1 year option picked up by the Cowboys.

Both coaches made the 2nd round of the playoffs. We aren't talking about **** Jauron here.

Jauron had received "coach of the year" in his rookie year with the Bears . His overall win/loss record is awful though. I put Phillips, Jauron, Norv all in the same category - each lack leadership /motivation skills and making players/coaches accountable. Each are known for holding soft training camps/practices and have a history of making big coaching mistakes in game.

I heard the last part of that interview. He basically said sometimes players need to be pushed and be held accountable and Norv isn't the kind of man to do that. Humm...sounds kind of like that guy in Dallas....:p:D.
As for Neil's defence of LT...well he did block for the guy for several yrs and LT must have bought him some "BLING" over the years. IMHO.....finding a seviceable RB nowadays in the NFL is not that big a deal and they still have NO. 43.

Jauron is a one hit wonder. Phillips hasn't had a losing record in his stay at Valley Ranch and he's won the NFC East twice. He just blasted the Eagles at home in his first home playoff game with the Boys.

Injuries are out of a coaches control. Losing your starting left tackle in the middle of a playoff game against a great D-Line makes it impossible to win. There isn't a right handed QB in this league that can win without his Left Tackle.

I realize you want to sabotage the Cowboys by getting them to let go of a good coach, but we aren't buying it. We had one of the top 2 defenses in the league this year. So I think Phillips did his job just fine. Flozell going down was unexpected, but that's football injuries happen and they cost games, seasons and what not.

Ugh. I just want to forget about football for a while. I gotta stop coming to this site.

I don't know how I feel about the Norv extension. I'm still kinda numb right now. Philip is playing the best football of his life right now. But Norv not calling a timeout with 2:07 to go and trying the onside kick doesn't sit well with me.

As for Neal, he never played under Norv, he was let go when Norv came in with his pass-first offense. I was sorry to see him go, but he was just too one-dimensional. I like Tolbert a lot better as a fullback that can also catch and run. You have to consider the source when you listen to Neal, but he does make some good points.

The thing that really kills me about this loss is this play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na4cE3m2Gwo#watch-main-area

Cromartie pulls up and lets Greene run right by him!!

He totally could have saved that TD run. Then he goes and hits Greene in the end zone. I'm surprised he didn't draw a flag for that. I've been hating on Cro for a couple of years now. The guy had one great year and has been crap ever since. The guy's scared to make a hit and can't tackle for crap!

I've heard he's going to be traded. I sure as hell hope so.

There are still games to be played. I know it sucks to lose, but it happens. The Chargers had very bad luck.
