Lexicon BD-30 Blu-ray Player (Oppo BDP-83 Clone) Review

I emailed Jerry at HTR yesterday about all the censorship (he deleted my posts too, even though they weren't "anonymous flames"), and he wrote back to me:

Chris,

I got your email today.

Please understand that pulling those posts was PAINFUL to me. I had to because they were powered by an another AV company trying to assinate Lexicon’s brand and using fake emails and user names.

I accept a certain level of culpability myself as we made the posting rules TOO LIBERAL on HomeTheaterReview.com which created the problem. That has been fixed today.

I will post our new rules for posting today and apologize to you for the semblance of “censorship” as that is NOT my intention. I do however own the copyright and I will not allow flames. That’s our right and we are not going to become a venue like the AVS. If people want to post constructive opinions – they are free to do so. If they want to anonymously flame companies, they will be deleted.

I hope you understand our position.

Sincerely,

Jerry

Thanks for the post.

What Jerry told you is a complete crock of BS!!!!

He deleted my posts, and many others that also post in the AVS forums, all of good character, and many have no connections to any home theater reviews or sales (I can't speak for all).

Many posts were legitimate questions asked in a courteous manner, that any reasonable publisher would be happy to answer, to provide their point of view, if nothing else.

Jerry is not interested in answering these legitimate questions, which immediately makes him look like he's up to no good.

I would say of all the posts I read (before he deleted them) HIS were the most inflammatory, and some he should be outright ashamed of! Perhaps he is, and that's the true reason for deleting them.

But what he says in your post above is nothing but BS.

With this situation he has proved to be of low quality character, and has no business running a review site that is tasked with informing consumers, as he has gone well out of his way to make sure that consumers that visit his web site are ill-informed.

Shame on you Jerry!

Great find, this is how high end audio operates. Does anyone know if this is illegal?
I seriously doubt being a marketing shill is illegal. Just look at the movie industry. They have been doing it for years by flying out "reviewers" for fancy press junkets.

It just becomes vastly less effective over time if a publication gets called out on their bs and the publication in question clearly sides with the money lining their pockets rather than editorial integrity.

But the statements made by lexicon about the BD-30, we call it an outright lie but what would the court of law say?

I would hope that a court of law wouldnt hear any of it. The owness is on Lexicon to back up their cliams or customers will be aware and fork out cash for no reason or stop purchasing their products. So oppo's parent company OEMs and one of their clients rebadged one of their products, happens all the time. If all consumers believed all of what manufactures told them, we would be in bad shape. Research and learn. AH did the homework and now everyone knows. Legal action is a joke unless it involves MONSTER:eek:

So now the posters who called him to task are "cyber terrorists"?

Ken Taraszka is allowed to have his opinion. People are allowed to disagree with it but attacking his professional credibility for having a medical degree is not acceptable on a site I own, moderate and run. I am sure you understand. Threats to harm my business also will not be tolerated ESPECIALLY when people are using fake names such as the FTC letter writing issue.
Why does the high end audio golden ear audiophools always say well that is my opinion? I have said it before, you can not change the mind set of a audiophool, it does not matter what kind or how much proof you have since they will believe what they want to.

What a crook!

EDIT: Removed quoted email.

Pretty arrogant response. Of course readership is way up right now, but it will be interesting to see if it stays that way after this dies down. And you can bet his moderator will be busy enforcing his new "rules." Pretty typical response of attacking readers, creating conspiracy, and indignantly creating so called rules against attacking his site. Unfortunately for him, none of his actions are going to distract people from the truth of the matter. The fact that he is continuing to refuse to respond to the core issue is very telling.

...(jerry's second response)
I have taken worse beatings and the readership is WAY up thanks to it. Nobody likes to hear this stuff but I don’t control the other forums...
He's taken worse beatings... ...and never learned a damn thing from them, man this guy is a douchebag.

Yeah readership is way up, everybody wants to see, first hand, what a crock of crap that review is.

AudioHolics' readership is also up, how not from a bunch of flamers defending Lexicon. Of course, doing that would be an act of futility.

Thanks for proving your point. So many people talk but so few can substantiate their thoughts. Clearly the Lex is an Oppo. Makes my day!

Hey guys this is all fascinating stuff but you should probably ask permission before posting private emails. It's always a pet peeve of mine when someone posts a personal email response I gave to them on AVS or other forums especially if its used out of context. This is indeed a strange situation as we weren't even aware of their review prior to publishing ours.

I wondered about that. That could be taken quite badly.

Fair enough...I tried to give as much context as possible...but I don't plan on writing him back, since I'm sure I'll get another bizarre response.

Good point, Gene. Removed the quoted email text from my post.

Made up my mind already...

... so I'll be grabbing up a full set of Bose speakers, all interconnects will be Monsters, of course, and last but not least the BDP will be a Lexicon BD-30 (sounds like a Panny), period!
That just seems to be, IMO, " The Perfect Loving Triangle" though :)

Oh, why not start referring to the BDP-83 & BD-30 as "the twins" from now on?;)
