I have NHT Classic 3 center and front speakers, and 4 absolute zero surrounds. The only non NHT speaker is the yamaha yst sw315. Should I buy a second matching sub, or sell the yamaha an get a NHT Classic 10? I'm using a yamaha rx-v663 for my reciever do 7.2 is an option, but i'm not super impressed with the sub currently. Thanks for any advice!!

In my humble opinion having two subs is great. Now what I would in your situation is to keep the one you have now and purchase the one you have in mind. Then when money allows, upgrade your yamaha to the other one. Have your cake and eat it too.

i wouldn't recommend using two different subs together, best to use it on another system

I use two different kinds of subs and have no problem at all.

a.) That's entirely subjective and a matter of personal preference, b.) if he was to get a better sub, his system's performance overall is still going to be limited by the weaker sub - a claim that has basis in science and numbers. It would negate the benefits of spending money on a much nicer sub to add as his second. Unless of course, he wants to spend a lot of money on a nice sub and not use it to it's potential...

IMO - get a nicer sub, and when he has enough money saved up after that purchase, he can then have his cake and eat it, although it will be a much better cake. ;)

The verdict

Thanks to everyone, so I made up my mind. I ended up selling the weak 10" yamaha sub, to help pay for the classic 12! Now all i need is another classic 12 :D
