18-150Hz vs. 28-120Hz?

I'm interested in buying one of these two subs. Only because of the convenience of picking either on of them up at BestBuy. Plus I have BestBuy gift cards so I don't have to lay out to much cash. If I was to get something else I don't want to pay over $400 that includes everything. I'm open to better choices.
Either the Klipsch SW-450 10in Subwoofer FR: 28-120Hz 200watts RMS $449 or Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 10in Subwoofer FR: 18-150hHz 300watts RMS $499
Now my question is, can I hear a difference in frequencies levels? Does it matter that the Klipsch only goes down to 28Hz? Are either of these subs worth the purchase? My setup:
It's a finished basement with a large area rug. I put a long curtain to divide the room because it is a big area. So the room dimensions are 12x17. Thats the area I will be watching my movies in. I'm going to use the sub mainly for movies & videogames, some music. I want to feel the bass hit me but I don't need it to bring the house down. Also the only place I really could put the subwoofer is right next to or behind the left front speaker tower against the wall. Want to make a purchase in less then a month.

I also looked at the HSU STF-2 for $349 l Outlaw LFM-1 Compact $399 l ED A2-300 $350 not sure what to do. Any of these other that much better then the Klipsch or Definitive Tech. I really don't feel like waiting for ever for the A2-300 to be shipped.

Given that you have gift cards are BB, I would recommend the Klipsch Sub 10 or Sub 12. This is a solid sub and will go good with your system. I have the Sub 10 and I like it alot.

You guys are missing the fact that he is limited to buying from only best buy.

"The Dynamo is a very good sub for small to medium sized rooms. It will play cleanly down to 25 Hz or lower given room gain. It is not an SPL monster but it is exceptionally good for music. I have had one for about 4 years now and it will remain with me. It is still one of the better subs I have had the pleasure of hearing solely for musical accuracy and I have had the pleasure of hearing quite a few. It is only 200 watts, not 200 watts nominal with a higher peak wattage, it is just 200 watts. It is actually a little surprising for HT use actually, it can hit with more impact than you would expect for it's size and specs."

As for the Hz question..its really personal preference and how your system is setup. Some like the extra deep lows, some can don't.

Out of the two, id go with the Klipsch. Never really liked DT.

And I have herd various subs from Klipsch, they make good subs.

I didnt miss it Sell the gift cards, buy something different, whatever, get one of the other non best buy subs he posted in the OP

Actually I stated that if I was to get a sub from somewhere else I don't want to over $400!! So I am open to buying other brands. But thanks for the advice. Still any suggestions?

On here I guess thats a yes. To friends & family who don't really have a HT it would be the TV. Even though it is nothing special. But you have to be happy with what you can afford. It's tough with two little kids!!

My point was you dropped coin on the one piece in the chain that will have the least impact on the overall sound. Im certain that if you could sell the Denon, get a unit half its price, add a good sub (later working on the speakers), your overall experience would change for the greater. Since you are already committed currently Id look to the HSUs and EDs that you mentioned or try used to get more bang for your buck.

Thanks, I'm pretty much happy with the setup right now. I don't know any different. But I can truely tell the sub is lacking. So I feel anything is better then what I have right now. I'll settle for something in my price range. In a couple of years upgrade from that. I can't compete with what people on here have. I appreciate the help from everyone here. Thanks again

The sub 12 was one of the worst subs I have ever used. It lived in my house for 2 days before it went back. My review of it said "cute".

For some reason, Martin Logan has chosen to name its new models Dynamo 500 and Dynamo 700 and Dynamo 1000. This is pretty confusing since the original Dynamo (now discontinued) had been out for a while.
In any case, I don't think there are too many reviews on the newer models.
The original Dynamo is a very good musical sub and became a bargain when it was being clearanced for $350 to $400. IMHO, it has sharper attacks than the SB12-Plus. It is still a good deal at around $420 shipped (note it is indicated as used but actually new).

Since the OP is primarily interested in HT, one of the subs recommended by bandphan is a better option.

The Pro Sub 1000 will not even come close to 18hz. Def Tech is notorious for overstating the frequency response of their subs. The Pro Sub 1000 will get get down to about 39hz at -3db. Call Def Tech to get -3d points for there subs.

Agreed. IMHO, one thing Best Buy is not known for is finding a good sub... for the money you would spend on their highest, top of the line Magnolia subs, you could get three times the performance, easily by choosing some of the others mentioned (Hsu, SVS, eD, etc...)

Having the gift cards makes it problematic, understandably - but if you can't outright sell them, use them for something else and save up for a real subwoofer using your own money. Might take a while longer, but in the end it will be much more worth it. Just my two cents.

Do you think the HSU STF-2 for $349 is a much better subwoofer then the Klipsch SW-450 for $449? I'm hearing the HSU STF-2 is a very good subwoofer & it is in my budget. The A2-300 I know will be too big & stand out. I want something that will blend in. A little smaller.

It's just me, but, I love Definitive Speakers. Just their Subs don't impress me. The Klipsch I can't say.
