Hi,
Just found this site. I am replacing my 7-year-0ld HK and am looking at several options. I wanted to know if anyone has bought an AV reciever on Ebay. I've certainly bought and sold lots of other items on the bay including expensive musical instruements but haven't bought any electronics. I'm considering several brands, Denon, Panasonic Elite, Onkyo but worry about manufacturer warranties not being honored. Any thoughts?
Thanks

It's a risk. I am not willing to do it unless it is an older piece of gear and I am getting it for dirt cheap.

You may want to check out this site. They have decent deals on refurbished Marantz and Onkyo recievers. I have purchased two receivers from this location and had a good experience. www.accessories4less.com

I'm looking at new. The only attraction on the bay is the price.

[STRIKE]I don't think[/STRIKE] I'm sure buying on ebay (or any other non-certified dealer) automaticaly disqualifies you of manufacturer warranty

Ok, Then , Find seller with good reputation, find equip you'd like and put your bids. Make sure to pay with paypal - you'd get more buyers protection

Just bought a Denon 3806

I just took delivery from an eBay purchase of the Denon 3806. (Got it for $417 from a lawyer.) Shipping was hefty but it is worth it. I am very happy with it.

I guess my question really is, is it worth the risk vs price of buying a new receiver on the bay. I've bought/sold $$$, everything from used baseball cleats to bass guitars. I've never had a problem with a seller or buyer. My hesitation is the reliability of the equipment and whether I may need warrenty repair. I'm so familiar with instruments that I pretty well know which ones are prone to issues, not so familiar with av equipment. Maybe it would help if I stated I'm looking at the elite 21 or 23 online. The Onkyo and Denon equipment I've seen don't have as great a price difference than say audioholics, crutchfield, best buy, etc.

It just depends. Lots of variables.

I just bought a 4310CI on Ebay. But I didn't just pay retail from Jo-Scmo with 0 feedback and no clue.

First, the seller had plenty of 100% feedback.
Second, the price I bid was way back from retail.
Third, the seller stated he was an authorized Denon dealer, and the product was NIB and A stock.
Fourth, I checked the Denon website and he was, indeed, an authorized dealer.
Fifth, before I left feedback, I went to the Denon website and registered the AVR - just to make sure.

So, If you do due diligence, it might be worth the risk. It was to me. With freight and insurance, I paid <$1200. So far ... So good.

But that does remind me of the guy who jumped off the Empire State Building. About half way down, someone heard him say "So far ... so good."

That's hilarious but who was the seller?

I've bought expensive electronics off eBay, but I make sure to check up on the seller as much as possible. In most cases manufacturer warranty will not transfer, but there are a few exceptions.

His username is "spidermanwrx". He's a Denon dealer out of Cali. He sold 6 or 7 Denon receiver in December. But he doesn't have anything listed right now.
