I finally decided to junk my BDP1400, so I went to Best Buy to get the LG, out of stock and when they checked to see how soon it would be in they said it was discontinued. Has any one herd this?

On Amazon, it's only available from a few odd vendors, and not at all from Amazon itself.

Nothing official, but that usually means it's discontinued.

All manufacturers announced new players at CES, so it is possible that LG's new models will hit stores sooner than expected.

Hopefully they can put out a Blu-ray machine as good as the BD390 but for a cheaper price and perhaps a smaller form factor.

Edit: It appears the new models are a bit smaller and don't seem to offer many features over the older BD390. The BD590 does add a 250GB HDD to store video which can be nice for people with too slow an internet connection. I wonder if the BD550 will support .mkv from an NTFS format drive. It does seem odd, the omission of HDMI 1.4 and 3D. Oh well, not super important to me anyway.

This might be hard to answer, but how long do you think LG will provide firmware updates?

Until whatever firmware they are coming out with is no longer compatible with the player I would imagine.
