Do you have advice for an inexpensive mic for bassdrum in a live bar situation? We've been using SM57 on snare/hihat and bassdrum too.

Look at Parts Express- they have mics specifically for kick drums, etc, as well as hardware for attaching them to the drums, stands, and clamps. Also, Musician's Friend has their Stupid Deal Of The Day and I have seen drum mics on that page. I have seen some pretty good mic deals on Craig's List, too.

This is excellent advice - wouldn't have thought of them as a resource for such things unless you had mentioned it. Cheers!
