Logic, I guess. If you are already married and you renew your vows, you're still married. It's not like you're getting re-married, which presupposes that you were married but are not currently and you're getting married again. I think that anybody that wants to renew their vows should get divorced first and see if she would actually marry them again if she had a valid choice.
