Sorry to be "That Guy" but I'm calling on the wisdom of my fellow Audioholics.

I can get a yammy RX-V2500 for 250 today and its in almost perfect shape. I don't have any serious need for it, but could put it to use. Is this a good price? Any weird things about this thing I should know about? The reviews looked pretty solid overall. Thanks...

What would you be using it for?

I can't come up with a list of reasons, but that price seems high for that. It's five years old, after all.

It's a good AVR with a wonderful pre/pro section and good power but it's so yesterday. If you need an AVR for just kicking around I would look for something less expensive.

Well... It is "so yesterday", as Greg rushed out of the closet to say, but if its a good receiver... It has preouts which I would need for the application and it has a multichannel in if I decide I need that for the newest codecs. I think it would be a HUGE upgrade to my parents feeble K-wood receiver and would allow them to do some multi zone stuff.

I gave this unit to my ex wife and she still uses it today. Its one of the last Yamahas that worked flawless and had a good amp and pre section.

Thanks, Scott.. would you pay 250 for one?

Give me the sellers contact info and for a small fee, I will get you a deal on it. It will cost you more in the long run but you will feel good about the fact that the AVR was cheaper.

I picked up a 2500 a couple years ago for a few bucks more than the price you gave. I just replaced it in the last month or so. Still have it sitting around. I'm torn between selling it to clear space and keeping it as a backup. It does a solid job. The only real drawback is the lack of HDMI inputs. If you're set on one, I'd be happy to sell you mine for $200 shipped. PM me if you are really interested.

There are a few things I like about my 1500 (the 2500's little brother) over my 1800.
I still use the 1500 sparingly in the den. It's in perfect shape, If I decided to sell it I'd expect to get around $150 for it.
I'd say the price you paid was fair, maybe a little high.

The RX-V2600 was a marketing tool; it had significantly higher performance/quality to the prior (RX-V250o) and future (RX-V2700 and later) models. This was apparently due to it being the 1st in a new major revision of receivers from all manufacturers that year. The pre-amp is 1st rate and it's a very nice looking unit for a 2 channel set up, with it's nice solid metal front, with simple design (only a couple of knobs and buttons visible, most controls hidden behind an access door). It has superb measured distortion performance, great SNR (dead quiet, even in an extreme low noisefloor environment), flat response and superb line level operation voltage ranges (input/output up to 4 VRMS without clipping/problems). Every subsystem (preamp, amp, video, etc.) operates from its own isolated power supply system, also, with many multiple taps coming form the very substantial main transformer.

I use this exclusively as my main 2 channel pre-amp. Note: you do need to hook a small monitor up to it to do initial setup/configuration(s).

Providing it works...... $250 is a great price..IMO. My only question is....what does "almost perfect shape" mean....what is the defect?? Does it have a big @ss dent in it? LOL

It was a $1,000 receiver only 5 yrs ago and the only reason it is outdated is because it doesn't have HDMI and the new HD audio formats.
(DTSMA and Dolby TrueHD)

Aside from the HDMI and HD-audio formats, it's an outstanding receiver for HT purposes....I have first hand experience with that model. The 2500 is a steal for $250 if you are looking to upgrade from an entry level receiver. (providing HDMI/HD-Audio formats lacking isn't a deal buster)
