Tell me if we chose right (please don't tell me we didn't :D)

Speaker set: Wharfedale Diamond 8 series (not sure if 8.0 , 1 or 2)
Amplifier: YAMAHA RX-V530
DVD: YAMAHA DVD-S530
Subwoofer: Eltax Atomic A10 450W

Overall, the system has been serving us perfectly fine for the last 4 years. My dad and I like sound, but are no audophiles.

I'm posting this thread mainly to see whether Wharfedale are good speaker brand or not. I personally have never heard of them before, and I don't find them popular even today.

On a side note, one more question: I'm at college now, thousands of miles away from home. I'd like to listen to a good sound again, however, my budget is severely limited (up to $100). Should I get some "crappy" 2.1 set (like Altec Lansing) for $100, or get good Sennheiser headphones also for $100? I have a $20 JVC headphones at the moment, and they're actually pretty good.

I'll let someone else comment on where Wharfdale falls in the audio spectrum.

Headphones vs speakers: That's such a subjective thing I don't know how anyone could answer it; though I think Sony makes a good set of monitor headphones in that range.

If I had $100 to spend I'd start trolling craigslist. I've seen some ok towers go around that price. I got my PSB 400i bookshelves off ebay for $60.

Thanks Jerry.

Hmm, I don't like buying used stuff, but that never crossed my mind - nothing could possibly be wrong with used headphones (well, if nothing is wrong, then nothing is wrong - right?) and the price could be lower.

Given the fact that I'm from Europe (although living in the US atm), I like European products :D patriotism.

Anyway, I was checking out these Sennheiser's:

(sorry, cannot post links because my post number <5)

At around $133, you can get the Behringer 2030p bookshelves, but you'll still need a receiver or amp, and that's gonna push your budget high.

My knowldge of modern headphones is very limited. There was a thread that I posted on on this forum (search for posts by me with the word "headphone" in it) where several people made recommendations. You may want to find that.

Is anyone willing to give me an opinion on Wharfedale?
