hi all,

so my HT is being built out. currently i have my Front L&R and center speakers wired and into the AR. nothing else is plugged in to the AR. The TV still has the direct link to the DVD and Cable box. So once i plugged in the RCA jacks i was fine. but once i plugged in the sub power the hum started.

i have thus far

- turned off cable box
- unscrewed cable feed
- tried different power outlets for sub (power by itself)
- changed direction of RCA direction (sub)
- plugged surge protector into a different socket

i am not sure what else to do.

Looks like the sub is causing the ground loop. If the sub has a three prong mains plug see if lifting the ground stops the hum.

Get a circuit tester and make sure the receptacles are wired correctly.

Llike this, but don't spend a lot on it- you should be able to find it for less than $10:

The sub has 2 prongs. Everything except the TV has two prongs that are plugged into the power strip.

I will look into buying this device (maybe HD/Lowes).

Does the sub hum when not connected to the AVR, but plugged in and turned on? Do you hear any hum from your mains with the sub disconnected and the speakers set to large?

Yes even when just plugged in and turned on w/o connection to the AVR. I don't hear any other humming from the other speakers.

Yes, but does the sub hum plugged in but not connected to the AVR? If so your sub has a bad amp power supply and needs service.

It sounds like you have done the best thing in contacting the manufacturer. Now you will get a new one hopefully.
