No main voice sound in my 5.1 system?

I am setting up my system as follows: Pioneer receiver with Denon upscaling Dvd player with Mitsubishi DLP TV. I am getting surround sounds but not the main talking during DVD playback. I have wired with Dvd- Hdmi to receiver and receiver to TV with Hdmi. Could somebody give a progression of steps to follow to rectify this? Thanks for the help.

Hi. Are you using speakers connected to the Pioneer receiver to listen to the DVD, or are you using the TV to listen to the movie?

What are the model numbers of the Pioneer and the Denon? It might just be a setting in one of the menus.

I think OP is saying the "center" channel dialog isn't working. As I understand it, OP has all HDMI connections. DVD- HDMI - AVR - HDMI - TV I would check the Pioneer settings to make sure the center channel is "on" ..after following your suggestion to check the center channel wiring/cable connections.

+1 for checking the receiver settings. In a short time since owning my Pioneer I've learned how easy it is to inadvertently change these settings and if it's a model with MCACC, sometimes that does weird stuff to your speaker configurations. It's a quick fix though, and hopefully that's the issue that will get you back on track with all 5 channels working correctly.

I found the manual for that model of Pioneer, but.. assuming you have indeed verified proper connection to the speaker(channel) in question, have you poked around the menu at all on this thing? It looks very straightforward - for example, you should be able to press RECEIVER on your remote, then press the SETUP button. From there you will see an option titled 'SP SETUP' - press ENTER. From there use up/down buttons to navigate to 'SP SET' which will open up the configuration in which your receiver is currently set. If the center channel is listed as 'No' or 'OFF' - change to 'Yes' or 'ON', however it lists it.

Also, another thing is to make sure your receiver is selected to process surround sound vs. multi-channel (which still should give you the center channel), stereo mode, enhanced stereo, direct, or any of those other modes that will not send a signal to the center channel.

If I understood his post correctly, he stated he was getting sound from the surround speakers, so this would lead me to believe the audio source is set correctly. I think the problem is simply a receiver setting.
