Whats the best way to stream video from Laptop to TV?

I just purchased a new Macbook Pro. With this I also set up a new Netgear Stora for a external hardrive/server between my desktop and laptop. My laptop is networked wireless through a router. I have my panasonic plasma in my den which is Viera Cast able and I just purchased my G15 Viera Cast ready plasma for my Bedroom.

I have a switch that I purchased somewhere in between also.

What is the best way to hook everything up. Or at least a place to start?

This is new territory for me... I apologize up front for any redundant questions I am about to ask.

For Viera Cast you will need to either run CAT5 network cabling or get an external wireless to ethernet adapter.

For getting the Macbook connected to the TV you will need a mini-display port to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable.

Check out Monoprice for the adapter and cable.

yes, you'll need this adapter as mentioned above, but in addition I think you should get this cable (change length as needed) for sound.

Not necessary you Macbook Pro does output sound on that mini-display plug, so second cable is in my opinion a necessary ebil.

@jinjuku: Are you sure he needs HDMI-DVI cable for new tv??

@mtbound10 - You'd probably want to check Plex software or Boxee Beta for Mac which should be out next month

Nice catch. No, the OP does not need (nor want) a DVI connector. A plain HDMI cable is what it needed.

To the OP - you can also use your MacBook as a wireless bridge to the TV for Viera Cast, if you wanted to do that.

I thought display port carried audio...

I linked to the wrong cable somehow. You don't need HDMI to DVI you simply need HDMI-HDMI

my colleague just bought new mac mini for htpc purposes, unfortunately he's off to two weeks in down under vacation to see some kangus
As soon as he back he'll check if him mac-mini with mini-display port to MP hdmi adapter will pass-through audio or not, but I guess mtbound10 will find out about this sooner

Or XBMC, Boxee is built off XBMC and is available now. I don't have any experience with XBMC on Mac though, just xbox/linux/xp.

I've got to say for video, XBMC is really impressive. Kind of like a cheaper fireball system or something.

BoredSysAdmin, do you use boxee? Do you like it? I've thought about putting it on my Linux machine.

Hey guys, thanks for all the responses, sorry I have not gotten back to anyone. I never got any notifications and I lost track of this thread... which sucks because I have been trying like hell to pull up media on my TV from my Netgear Stora and I can NOT do it!!! I do not know what I am doin wrong.

I have my LG BD390 networked wirelessly and hooked up to my tv via HDMI. The tv is a panasonic G15. I have transferred my ITUNES to my netgear stora. I can see the Stora on my TV, I can see the Itunes on my tv I can even see the music and video folders on my tv, but it shows nothing in the folders!!! It is getting frustrating...

Video and Audio solution?

I just wanted to bump this thread bc I am looking to hook-up my MacBook Pro to my TX-SR607 via the front panel HDMI port. My goal is to have video and audio...

In order to get both Video and Audio, I plan on getting PID 5969 from Monoprice. Hooking up my Mac to adapter > HDMI cable > Receiver.

Am I overlooking anything here? Will be able to use my Mac audio and video via the connections I have listed above?

Thanks in advance!
