SVS PB12-Plus big enough?

I'm going to pull the trigger on my first HT speakers. I've decided to go with SVS speakers. My room dimensions are 17 ft wide by 28ft long. Ceiling is 8ft. The theater will be in only the first 2/3 of the room, with toys in the back, such as a pool table and such. Will the PB12-Plus be enough sub for that set-up? Is the Ultra that much more of sub? We like action movies and we want to feel some rumbles, but I really don't know if I can spend the extra $450. I know some will say to build my own sub... maybe some other time. This is my first system so I sort of just want a plug and play type thing. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I recommend that you contact SVS and ask them. They are very good about recommending what they think the best sub for the job is.

The Ultra is a great sub, but the PB12-Plus is no slouch. You could always add a second sub in the future (a) if you want to and (b) if/when you get the money to afford it. People here, including the founder (Gene), have discussed the benefits of having multiple subs instead of just one.

BTW, since you are already ordering from them, I believe that you'll get a discount on the sub.

Yeah, Jack at SVS has already been very helpful, one of the main reasons why I chose to go with them. There is a 10% discount on either sub since I'm ordering an SCS system. Dual subs is possibly a future option. So, that leads me to ask this:

I'm trying to find the right receiver for my system. I have considered the Denon 2310/3310 vs. the Marantz 5004/6004. Will any or all of these be able to run dual subs? Does it even depend on the receiver it be able to run more than one sub? Obviously I am new so any help is greatly appreciated.

A single subwoofer output is all that you'll need on a receiver. You can always use a y-splitter to run the signal to two subwoofers. I don't know of any real benefit to having two subwoofer outputs on a receiver.

I think some receivers have stereo subwoofer preouts...I may be wrong about this though.

So you're saying that Onkyo's 7.2 and 9.2 receivers send the same output to both subs? That Audyssey will can't configure them individually?

No, I was just saying that I couldn't think of any that had stereo sub outputs. Which Onkyos are you asking about? I'll be happy to look into that.

Usually the subwoofer output is just the lower frequencies and is not split to left and right (stereo). Since it is pre-out and not line level, as Adam said you can connect multiple subwoofers with a y-cable. However, having said that I have seen subwoofers in which you connect line level left and right fronts to the sub first and then connect from the sub to the left and right fronts. I had a Klipsch that did this, but I didn't notice any difference really.

OP,

I would vote for your Marantz receiver choice; but I am biased because I have Marantz. Denon is a good choice also.

Also you said 2/3rd room size so about 17 x 18-19 I have a PB12-Plus in a 20 x 21 den open on two sides and it is awesome. I think you would be very happy with a single PB12-Plus. Be sure to sub crawl ... move the sub around to various possible positions in your room too see which one sounds best.

Thanks for the input. I wired a few different "sub" outlets in the room so that I can move it around for the best sound. I am going to go with the PB12-Plus. I'll post a reply as to how it turns out. Can't wait, should be fun.

Yeah, Christmas came a little early today. I picked-up a Marantz SR5004 after work today. Man, those things are beefy and beautiful, sorta like a nice rib eye

I have an Onkyo 1007 and use the two sub preouts and when I run Audyssy it configures each one seperatly.
