Panny 65" V10 Inquiry

Hi,

After listening to all the advice and spending hours and late nights reading analysis and reviews, I made the switch from my Darling Sony 46' X-series to Plasma (Hope I won't be disappointed?!!) I went ahead and ordered the Panny 65" V10. It'll take few days before it is delivered.

I have the following Questions:

1- Is it recommended to hang it on the wall? or is it too heavy, too big?

2- As my viewing distance is 13.5 feet = 4.1 meter. I watch a lot of SD programs 60% of my viewing. Did I make the wrong screen size for SD viewing from this distance.( I also watch Blu Ray which I think is no issue)?

Congratulations on a very fine TV. You can wall mount it no problem, the only question is if that's what you want. The issue is not the TV or mount, but the wall itself, and specifically the mounting method. I even researched a tiny bit on swivel mounts for this very heavy TV for a friend, but I stopped because he's eliminated that possibility. THAT would have required extremely secure mounting.

SD will appear too soft. The more you compromise for that, the less you will enjoy the resolution of 1080p. Everyone has to find their own solution. My solution was to completely forgo SD since years ago.

I find it very hard to watch SD after a couple of years of 90% HD, I guess we spoil ourselves to a fault. I can deal with only HD, no problem, lol.

I have to watch SD coz I have so much SD content and channels. However my home cinema gear, SD Satellite receiver & speakersgears will be connected to my Denon receiver that is capable of upscaling to 1080i. Will this make a difference to my SD picture on the V10?

I guess it'll be risky to hang the V10 + I'll have to hang it low in order not to strain my neck if its a bit high. therefore hanging it low is similar to keeping it on the stand.

Let the display handle the upscaling unless you want to invest in an outboard scaler.

That TV only weighs around 135lbs. If you are hanging it on the wall, you should have no issues (it's almost completely downward force). Just make sure you get 4 good lags into the studs. Personally, I would also add 4 lags into the drywall for added protection. The main thing that would effect what type of lag to use would be if you have steel studding instead of wood. If you plan on a swivel mount though, then you may need to consider reinforcing the wall as the force now becomes outward. I watch SD from around 10ft and it's not to bad. Not HD, is soft and fuzzy but not impossilbe to watch. As mentioned above, let you TV do the scaling. (or play with the settings to see what is best). You may also want to find out how your set top box really handles resolution. Mine is Bell HD, and the true resolution is 720p. I let my TV scale up to its native resolution instead of using the internal scaler from the set top box.

I have one of those for my 50" Panasonic plasma and it is rock solid. I was a little weary at first because it was only 20 bucks so I just went to home depot and got better steel bolts than the ones it came with for like 3 bucks so the TV isn't going anywhere. I don't see the need to spend over 5x as much on other mounts when the monoprice ones are so solid.
