I'm considering the Paradigm DSP-3400, what are your thoughts on that? It's got a bigger 14" driver... how do you think it would stack against the SVS PB-12? Let's say im 80%HT/20% music/concerts user.

The DSP-3400 will be quicker and punchier which is good for musical applications. However, it will not have the dynamic capability of the PB12-NSD down below 25 Hz. Not even close. As such, the PB12-NSD will be great for ht applications. Please keep in mind that the PB12-NSD has been improved musically speaking since I owned mine. Also, SVS has superior customer service that is second to none. That means a lot in my book. Does that answer your question? Good luck on making your decision.

Good luck in your decision. There are a lot of members here that can answer about any questions you have regarding many of these companies mentioned in this thread. You would be hard pressed to go wrong with any of them. Since your preference in on HT, my vote would have to go to the PB12-NSD. The PB10-NSD is no slouch in that department either. Keep us updated. question about DSP-3200 vs. VTF 2.

Hello Phil,

I've been reading your speaker review threads with great interest. Thanks for posting the good information.

I have a question about your use of the Paradigm DSP-3200. Did you use Paradigm's Perfect Base Kit EQ system by any chance, to set it up? If not, did you use any EQ optimization system at all? (Did you EQ any of your subs for that matter?)

I'm wondering if your 3200 could be optimized to sound better? I say this based on your comments about the 3200 and the HSU you used to own.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm currently deciding between the Paradigm DSP series and the HSU VTF MKIII series. The space I'm filling is a (soon to be) finished basement, roughly 23 x 20. I'm really leaning toward getting two subs, but of course, money is an issue, so at most I could get two VTF 2's. Not even sure if I can swing two DSP-3200's - since they are more expensive than the roughly equivalent HSU units; I may have to consider two DSP-3100's.

You are the only person I've come across so far that has owned (and reviewed) both the VTF and the DSP. I know you've stated that the VTF was your favorite sub to date. Thus my question: Did you EQ the DSP-3200? If not, I wonder if it would have compared more favorably if it had been? I know there is no way you can answer that, but I have to ask it anyway.

To give you a bit more background info, I'm getting Paradigm in-wall speakers, and I can (potentially) get my whole system from a local Hi-Fi house, with which I have done business before and am satisfied with their service. This Hi-Fi house introduced me to Paradigm initially, many years ago, and I really like the sound of Paradigm's speakers now. I am a musician and have pretty particular requirements for quality audio, within my modest budget. Paradigm's are hands down the best sounding speakers to my ears of just about any speakers I've heard - including against much more expensive brands. But, subs are a different matter.

I appreciate any advice you can give me on this topic.
