ahh, makes sense, i would have just thought that because its such a good thing to have in each our homes that someone would have made some sort of chart or something to be able to calculate "rough" ideas on what you should have/look for.
I dont mind paying that price for the HTS1600, but i dont want to buy it, then find out later that i need more then what its offering. to me i think it will be ok, for what i own now (reciever, xbox 360, BD player and subwoofer) i do belive when i buy a t.v this year i will have a sepearte protector for it due to my rack being farther away, and later this year a satelite will also be hooked up to the surge protector. Then hopefully an external amp with years to come, but ive read that it should be seperate on its own.

sorry im not trying to be an a hole or anything by anymeans, but i dont see what you posted good? other then saying monster is bad, and there are better for less (witch i cant seem to find any better for less) (i am in canada, so prices are different out here) i find some better for a bit more money. but how do i know how many jouls i need? i dont want to spend big bucks on something that does 6-8000 jouls where i only need one to say do 3000-4000.

Also, monster IS good, there products are awsome, its their prices that are NOT good.

You do have a point and that Jamie is a complete and utter douche bag.

I have the HTS 3500 MKII and my only regret is that I couldn't find a 5000 in my price range.

That 1600 is pretty entry level. Consider financing the next model up. ;)

well the only reason im considering this is because its 50% off, the others wont be on sale (maybe if so a bit cheaper) but i wouldent pay full price for these units. so if its not this, then its waititng till summer to buy the belkin.

If you're set on buying a power console, I suggest also looking at the Belkin PF31 and Belkin PF30.

If you don't need the fancy console, I'd suggest looking into a power strip like this. I got my parents a Belkin power strip for $30 last year, but I can't find it right now.

Something that I didn't think about before buying my Belking PF31D console is that it's actually more difficult to plug stuff into the back of a unit in my entertainment center than it is to plug into a strip on the floor. That might not be an issue for you, but I wanted to mention it.

hey, thanks adam, the pf31 was the unit i was looking at buying before hand. now plugging and unplugging things, is no worries for me. so i was looking for a unit rather then a strip. now i just looked and it seems 1 watt = 1 joule, so i looked into my manuals, and found out i will have a total of 1532 watts right now, and later on with a t.v 1801 watts. so does this mean i need 1801 joules or more? if so, this monster would work for me untill i upgrade years down the road? but if i dont buy this, come summer time i will buy the belkin PF31 or the unit about it.

right now i am using a belkin strip that does up to 1875 watts, and the subwoofer and t.v (old style) is plugged into a seperate belkin strip that does the same amount of watts

I'd actually have to research surge protection (again...as I don't remember the specifics) to make a recommendation on how many joules of protection you want.

However, I might be able to help explain something. A Joule is a quantity of energy, while a Watt is a quantity of power (which is energy per unit time). 1 Watt = 1 Joule/second.

I believe that the amount of surge protection that you want has nothing to do with the power consumption of your components. Rather, it has to do with how much energy the surge protector can absorb before allowing energy through to your components. Hmmm, maybe I should research this again...

ahh makes sense, so the bigger the joule the more energy it can absorb? is that right then? im just trying to figure out what makes A better then B, the only thing that stands out really is the number of Joules goes up with the more money you spend.

A Joule is a unit of energy, so you're correct- the more it can absorb, the better your equipments' chances of survival.

In the meanwhile, keep your eyes out for AH specials on APC stuff too. I use two Monster power centers, but if I could do it all over again, I can guarantee you they wouldn't be in my racks.

do these power conditioners make any significant difference in the quality of picture or sound? I know it'll provide surge protection, but so would a $30 power bar. Is there any benefit to getting one of these? Ive seen some on c-list such as the hts 5100 for about $250.
