Upgraded to Oppo BDP-83. Keep Denon 2900 for CD playback?

I have the old Denon 2900 which has always sounded great to me and the only reason I'm replacing it is because it doesn't do Blu-Ray. Anyway, should I keep this in the rack for CD playback or is the Oppo close enough/better and I might as well clear a spot on the rack?

Thanks in advance.

If it were me, I'd keep both hooked up because I like the convenience of having multiple-disc capability. As for performance, I say hook them both up and check it out.

As Adam has already stated there is a convenience benefit of keeping both players hooked up.

However, if you want to free up space and are using a digital connection, there is no need to keep the Denon around. On the other hand, if you are using an analog connection you’ll want to follow Adam’s advice and compare the two players for yourself.

Pleasure was all mine!:D

As I rarely get to add to your sound advice… I didn’t know thread bots could miss details:p

I still have my 2900 but I moved it to the bedroom system. I don't really need it in the main system anymore.

Thanks all. I may hook it up while both are still analog and compare to see if I can hear any difference. If I upgrade my 4802 to a 5308 as planned, I'll eventually be connecting via HDMI. Also, I have a feeling the 2900 is a better audio unit, but I also have Denon's five disc changer the DCM-380.

I recently upgraded my 83 to an SE and it is easily better than the 2900, but the standard 83 was already at least as good as the 2900. I was able to compare them pretty much back to back in my system in stereo. I've owned many players and there is a reason why the 2900 wasn't displaced from my system until I got the 83. With the SE upgrade, the difference is even bigger.
