My current setup is a Sony SXRD TV with a Sony AVR (STR-DE895) with my most recent addition of Sony BDP-BX1 player & the speakers are Bose Acoustimass 16 II. I chose the 6.1 for the rear center channel to help me hear the dialog. I would now like to upgrade to a AVR that decodes the new HD audio available and the connections all being HDMI. Problem I don't see any 6.1 AVR on the market they are mostly7.1 or 7.2. I like the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K, but I am not sure if I can connect & use with what I have. I am not 100% happy with my previous choices, but believe I am in too deep to change without a great expense. Any suggestions to a novice ?
Thanks
Rick

Welcome to the forum, Rick!

You can set the VSX-1019 up to be either a 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 system. That's true for most (if not all) 7.1 receivers out there. How to do the connections for the 1019 is handled on page 19 of the owner's manual if you'd like to check it out. With the auto set-up routine on the 1019, I believe that the receiver will do the rest of the work for you (except that you'll likely want to switch the speakers from "Large" to "Small" to better utilize the subwoofer).

Having the Bose module hooked between the speakers& the AVR won't have an ill effect?

I just took a look at the connection guide for that system, and I don't believe that it should cause any problems.
