What are the upgrades in the 3900 that merits the $500-600 bump in price? Can you list them in order of must significant to least significant.

Trying to decide this week. Also for around the 1k street price (+/- $200) are these the better choices in today's market??

bump, anyone?
On Yamaha's website; AV receivers, compare :
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/compare/Detail.html?compitem1=&compitem2=5016803&compitem3=5016804&CTID=5000300&VNM=LIVE&comp_items=5016803&comp_items=5016804&B_compare.x=29&B_compare.y=6

Apart from that, I am sure this must already have been discussed in other threads. Try a search.

Also interesting; a lot to read but the first post already mentions the differences.

Okay, I will read second thread. I looked at comparisons on the Yamaha site, but the differences did not look that significant (or at least I did not understand where the $500-600 difference came in. I will read second thread. Only other receiver someone recommended was the Pioneer SC-25 which has the digital amplifiers. Bottom line, I need to pull the trigger today in order to get by christmas so was desperately looking for confirmation of my choice and trying to understand why the price difference between the 1900 vs. 3900 models.

I don't think the 3900 offers much more over the 3900 except for networking, which ffrom what I understand doesn't even work that well with it anyways... I would save your money and get the 1900, or even an 1800 if you can get it for a good price. I have a RX-V1800 and my friend has a RX-V1900 and there aren't that many differences between the two.

I agree. Don't forget the HTR6190 as well which is the equivalent receiver to the RXV-1800.

One thing the 3800/3900 has that the 1800/1900 does not have is a tape loop so one can insert a graphic equalizer into the loop. This is by no means a deal breaker but it was something that caught my eye.

I have a 3900..........

The main differences are network related. The 3900 has USB, DNLA, and a lan terminal and also HDMI passthrough capability. It also has two HDMI outs....the 1900 only has 1. (Rhapsody/Sirius too)

Other than the network stuff, they're very similar......

PS...I've already used the USB to do a firmware update. We all know the value of those, right?

The difference between the two in this regard is that the 3900 allows an HDMI signal to pass though while in standbye, While the 1900 needs to be powered up.
